Topics: Become a "Pro" in Piwik PRO and make standardization a reality: Save time, minimize redundancy, and enable standardization and transparency with the free "Piwik PRO Manager" Google Sheets Extension.
PP has become a key player in the market, but as with any tool, the biggest challenge is making the setup scalable and maintainable, especially when managing multi-site setups in Tag Manager.
Last year, we faced quite a challenge. We inherited a Piwik PRO setup that had been so awfully implemented that the client could have sued the previous agency for malpractice. Before doing anything, we set out to clean up and standardize the mess… By the end, we got from 12 sites to 4, from 5000 triggers to 100, and from 1500 tags to around 120.
How did we do that? We built a tool! And that tool is free for anybody to use now. And it helps any Piwik PRO Admin massively even if you don't have a messy setup or don't need a multi-site architecture.
Based on the Piwik PRO API, Google Sheets Apps Script and some Google Cloud Platform components, Piwik PRO Manager's general idea is that you edit only a single "Template" Site where you define "global" Tags and Variables, and any changes to these components are automatically synced across all other sites.
But even for single-site setups, Piwik PRO Manager tool helps tremendously: You can search through your Tag Manager, bulk-edit and delete components, locate duplicate and unused components, bulk-manage Goals and Custom Dimensions, and much more.
