Agenda

6:00 PM: Arrivals and Check In

6:30 PM: Welcome / Community Update

6:45 PM: Natalie Godec - Balancing tight security with fluid devex, powered by GKE

The most secure server is one that is disconnected from the Internet and unplugged. And the most convenient environment for devs is where they have admin access to production and the freedom do what they want. How do you marry the two? Let's look at a real-world scenario where we built a cloud-native fintech platform on GKE. The vision? A robust, flexible, and secure foundation that supports SOC2-compliant deployments and empowers developers to be as productive as possible, contrary to the typical for the financial sector blown-out processes and approval chases. This solution is powered by Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and the cloud's niftiest security tools from the Secure Supply Chain toolkit.

7:15 PM: Jai Campbell - Site Reliability Engineering: Adapting to the AI Revolution

Large language models (LLMs) capabilities and adoption are increasing at an exponential rate. With this change in technology, there is an increased emphasis on ensuring the reliability of applications and services that utilise AI including the platforms they are deployed on.

In this presentation I will discuss the transformative impact of AI across various industries and highlight the crucial role of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) in managing and maintaining AI-driven systems. I will provide an overview of AI's integration into technology, discussing the benefits and challenges, such as improved decision-making, automation, data privacy, and ethical considerations. I will define the SRE role, contrasting traditional responsibilities with those in AI-enhanced environments, including, MLOPS, AI model deployment, advanced monitoring, and incident response.

We will have an indepth look at essential tools and technologies for SREs in the early stages of the AI era, Gemini for Google Cloud, AI integration with CI/CD pipelines, AI powered code suggestions and code reviews, root cause analysis, advanced monitoring and alerting. I will end the session taking a look at future trends, emphasising the synergy between AI and SREs, the importance of continuous skill development, and the ethical responsibilities of SREs in ensuring reliable and responsible AI systems.
