Data Governance in a Nutshell - From Strategy to Hands-On with Microsoft Purview and Fabric

Data is one of the most valuable assets in any organization - but understanding your data estate, its systems, dependencies, responsible roles, and supporting processes is what truly drives data literacy and trust. This is the realm of Data Governance, which bridges organizational frameworks and technical capabilities.

In this session, we’ll demystify what Data Governance really means. We’ll begin with the foundational concepts: Who are the key stakeholders? What processes and policies should be in place? Why is a governance strategy essential before diving into tools?

Once we’ve established the strategic and organizational groundwork, we’ll move to the technical side with a hands-on look at Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Fabric. You’ll learn how to:

• Discover and scan your data sources • Classify and catalog data for better understanding • Build a business glossary for a shared language • Enable secure sharing through data domains and data products • Trace data lineage and apply observability principles • Ensure data quality in a governed environment

By the end of this session, you'll have a clear picture of how to get started with Data Governance in your organization—from defining the vision and roles to implementing it with Microsoft's modern data tools.
