After a 5 years hiatus, PWL London is back! Please welcome Derek Jones who is going to kick off this new season with the paper:

"The CESAW dataset: a conversation" Download: https://arxiv.org/abs/2106.03679

Abstract An analysis of the 61,817 tasks performed by developers working on 45 projects, implemented using Team Software Process, is documented via a conversation between a data analyst and the person who collected, compiled, and originally analyzed the data. Five projects were safety critical, containing a total of 28,899 tasks. [...]

Speaker Derek used to write compilers that translated what people wrote, and then moved on to analyzing code to try to work out what they intended to write. These days he is analyzing all the publicly available software engineering data.

Location Google, 6 Pancras Square, N1C 4AG https://maps.app.goo.gl/h7KmcFhssnnFEc6d6 The nearest tube station is King Cross St Pancras. No food/drinks provided.

Check-in instructions A group of us will be forming in the atrium hall around 6.15pm then move up to the meeting room at 6.30pm. If you arrive after 6.30pm, please ping an email to [email protected] for someone to pick you up from the atrium to the meeting room.

Schedule

  • 6.15pm: meet in the atrium hall just past the revolving doors
  • 6.30pm: move to meeting room. Laptop/recording setup.
  • 6:40pm: presentation starts

Notes This is our first meeting after a long time, things are still in flux while we get back to a monthly rhythm. We are only allowed 20 people to attend (size of the room and fire safety restrictions). A recording of the meeting should be available but subject to Google process approval. If you're new to PWL London, we meet once a month to discuss our favorite papers. Do you have a paper you love and would like to share it with our community? Please get in touch! [email protected]
