Two people die each week on average as a result of the UK’s infected blood scandal.

The Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA), was set up in May 2024, to pay compensation to eligible members of the infected blood community following the recommendations of the Infected Blood Inquiry.

Data helps tell the story of a person impacted by the infected blood scandal. But sometimes the data we need isn’t available, which means IBCA needs to look at what is available and carefully piece it together to build their story.

Alix Crabtree (Deputy Director of Data) will explore the inherent challenges IBCA faces and how they use data across the medical landscape to build a full picture for people whose stories need to be told. She'll show how IBCA puts affected people at the centre of everything they do.

Join her to learn about the technical and ethical considerations behind building a data-driven compensation service that puts users at the centre of everything they do.
