Make it and take it! Nützliches für den Haushalt mit der Nähmaschine
2026-01-31 · 13:00

December Meetup
2025-12-04 · 17:00
Agenda: 18:00 Welcome 18:15 How not to sell the same ticket to two different people by Jose Muñoz (ClickHouse) 19:00 Online schema changes at Scale with TiDB by Mattias Jonsson (PingCAP) 19:45 Lightning Sessions 20:15 Pizza & networking How not to sell the same ticket to two different people by Jose Muñoz (ClickHouse) Summary: Let’s say we build an app to sell movie theater tickets using your favorite database and framework. We design a stunning interface, pack it with amazing features, and ensure every detail of accessibility is perfect. We deploy it to production, and once users start arriving, we notice some very strange things happening: some customers have purchased the same seat for the same movie at the same time, and in some showings, people are sitting on the floor because we've sold more tickets than there are seats. What could have gone wrong? In this talk, we’ll explore how these kinds of issues can occur when we don’t use transactions, share some real-world cases, and examine techniques modern databases use to help us avoid these problems. Bio: Jose is a software engineer with close to nine years of experience building data-centric products at companies such as Tuenti and Tinybird. He now works at ClickHouse, where he maintains the dbt connector. Passionate about community, he has helped organize events with GDG Cáceres and Databeers Madrid and tries to share what he learns by speaking at meetups and conferences. Online schema changes at Scale with TiDB by Mattias Jonsson (PingCAP) Summary: ALTER TABLE in production databases are tricky, this talk will go through some of the challenges, as well as how the Distributed SQL database TiDB solves the issues as well as providing high speed index addition and more. Bio: Mattias has worked as a Principal Software Engineer at PingCAP working on TiDB, since April 2021. Previously he worked with MySQL at Booking.com and before that working on MySQL server at Oracle. So more than 20 years of Database experiences, mostly in the MySQL community. |

November Meetup: Building Music Applications with Rust
2025-11-05 · 17:00
It's the November iteration of our monthly meetup. Following Stephan Eckes' presentation back in April, we're looking forward to another Rust talk, this time with Ian Hobson! See details below. After the talk, we'll also give a quick update to everyone about the recent Mitgliederversammlung (member's meeting) we had as a Verein. As always, there will be a chance to network over drinks and pizza. Anyone interested in Audio development is welcome! Building Music Applications with Rust - Ian Hobson In this talk I'll be giving an overview of the current state of the Rust music software ecosystem, and we'll explore the latest developments in tooling, libraries, and best practices. I'll also take you on a practical tour of a reusable project template for Rust-based music apps that can be distributed as plugins, on mobile or desktop operating systems, or in web browsers. Please note: Attendance is strictly limited to people who have RSVP'd. You will receive further instructions on how to attend once RSVP'd. If the event is full, please register for the waiting list in case a spot opens up. |

2025-06-22 · 14:30
For many of us, the COVID situation means life's still not back to normal. Whatever your intentions were during the various lockdowns, if you now find yourself with a pile of unfinished or unstarted projects that you want to get through, look no further. We've been running these free online events since April 2020. Members have fed back that they get a much-needed productivity boost because, in coming to the session, they make sure they dedicate time to their projects. Read more here: https://suze.dev/blog/get-on-with-it/. If there's stuff you want to get started, finished or make progress on, but are struggling for motivation, join us! We'll get together to share what we're doing, cheer each other on and generally support each other to kick-start some momentum. Here are some examples of things people have worked on in previous sessions:
The session takes place on Google Meet and Slack and the structure is as follows. All times are shown in London UK time: *** Optional: 3.30pm [Google Meet]: Social chat (not work chat 😜). If you want to give the social a miss, join the call at 4pm. *** 4.00pm [Google Meet]: Welcome from Ladies of Code. 4.05pm [Google Meet]: Tell us what you want to work on today. Type it in the chat or switch on your video camera and talk about it :) 4.15pm [Slack]: Get working! Check in / get support on our dedicated Slack channel. 5.15pm [Slack]: Tea break. 5.30pm [Google Meet]: Check back in on Google Meet for show and tells / progress demos. 5.40pm [Slack]: Go back to working on your projects. Check in / get support on our dedicated Slack channel. 6.40pm [Google Meet]: Check in on Google Meet, show and tell/watch and listen! 7.00pm [Google Meet]: Thanks, goodnight and keep up the good work!
