  • Testimonials:

“I thought that having participants tell us about their project during last week's hackathon was really great. A super ice breaker, allowed the shy ones to express themselves. Also was a discussion opener to approach them with interest. Really great idea.”

PyData Boston December Meetup

Join us in Edinburgh on 4 December to hear how we can drive sustainable value out of AI and cloud computing while controlling their impact on our environment.

Investment in GenAI is growing like crazy with huge implications for future cloud usage - and the costs and carbon emissions that go with it. Carbon emissions from IT already exceed those from the entire aviation industry. So long as data centres rely on electricity supples from fossil fuels, carbon emissions are set to rise even further unless we take action to limit them.

FinOps and GreenOps offer a well-defined strategic path to better value and lower environmental impact. Join us on 4 December to see how we can get control over what cloud is going to cost us and limit its climate impact.

Hosted by IBM Scotland, this Meetup will look at practical ways we can control how we use cloud to maximise its value to all of us - and our children.

Here's the agenda: 4:00 pm Reception 4:30 pm Introduction & Welcome 4:40 pm Keynote Address 5:00 pm Lightning talks from industry experts 5:45 pm Interactive Breakout Sessions 6:15 pm Informal networking

In January we will have an in-person meetup in Southampton, details later. If you want to be a part of that meetup, please let Mikey know (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikeybronowski/) as we would love to kick off the new year with some lightning talks - anything between 1 and 15 minutes :)

We wish you all the best in the last few days of 2023 and Happy New Year!

See you soon.

Thanks, Team @SotonDataCloud

Join us for the final PyData Amsterdam meetup of 2023. In collaboration with Kickstart AI, we host a meetup centered around FinTech on December 7th at 18:00. Sign up to enjoy some food, drinks, and excellent talks at Startup Village (Science Park 608, 1098 XH Amsterdam).

Schedule: 18.00-18.45: Welcome (🍕 /🍺) 18.45-19.15: “Smart Banking: Unraveling the Potential of Artificial Intelligence” - Dimitrios Papadimas (ING) 19.15-19.45: “Multi-Model Optimisation in Payment Processing” - Belle Bruinsma (Adyen) 19.45-20.00: “Model Selection in Fintech: The Pros and Cons” - Yash Ramdjas (Globadyme) 20.00-21.00: Networking + Drinks and bites

Talks:

Smart Banking: Unraveling the Potential of Artificial Intelligence by Dimitrios Papadimas - ING Abstract: In today’s rapidly evolving digital age, the intersection of finance and technology has become a driving force behind transformative changes in the financial industry. In Dimitrios' talk, he will explore the innovative AI solutions used in the industry and their impact on businesses and consumers alike. He will cover how AI is being implemented to optimize traditional customer service domains to the more dynamic field of financial crime detection to chatbots using Generative AI. Here, he will also touch upon the challenges and ethical considerations and the guard rails required when using such technologies.

Multi-Model Optimisation in Payment Processing by Belle Bruinsma - Adyen Abstract: Making an online payment using your credit card can be done in a blink of an eye. However, a lot is happening in the background to make sure this process goes as frictionless as possible. Transactions are optimized by multiple machine learning models running in production. Through multi-model optimisation, we are optimizing on the full funnel of a transaction instead of each model individually. In this talk, Belle will dive into the challenges we’ve faced at Adyen while immersing ourselves in the world of multi-model optimisation and highlight some of our achievements.

Model Selection in Fintech: The Pros and Cons by Yash Ramdjas - Globadyme Abstract: A lightning talk about the modelling challenges Globadyme faces within their startup to kickstart an interactive session to collect ideas and feedback.
