Saheli De is a Senior Data Scientist at Blue Radix, a company specializing in autonomous growing solutions for greenhouses. Scott helmers is presenting: Transforming Network and Facility Management with Visio and Power BI: There’s no shortage of data in most organizations, but the existence of data isn’t enough. How do you leverage that data, learn from it, and draw insights that will help you move your organization forward? One answer is to visualize the data in the context of a diagram, which is surprisingly easy to do when you know a little bit about Visio and Power BI. In this session, you’ll learn how to create Visio diagrams that “light up” with several types of visualizations. You’ll also appreciate how easy it is to drop a Visio diagram into Power BI and link it with other visuals so you can slice and filter data across multiple visuals with one click. The presence of the Visio diagram in Power BI adds context: you know exactly which rooms are too hot; which virtual machines are running apps that have failed; which network switch needs to be replaced and exactly where it’s located. The examples used in this session are from a real customer project and include facility diagrams that incorporate drilldown from a regional view to a building to a floor, and then use heat maps to show property maintenance issues. You'll also see a theme park map in which buildings light up based on data about equipment they contain. Though this session features two specific case examples, the concepts apply much more broadly: If you have a diagram and corresponding data, you can visualize it using tools you already have. Code and Stuff are a coding and networking community for women and non-binary developers and code newbies in Manchester, with bi-weekly events. We believe that diversity in tech is really important and to balance the scale we are building a collaborative agile learning community to support more women and non-binary people getting into tech. Our ambition is to show women and non-binary developers and code newbies that anything is possible - and that with a bit of help and confidence they can realise their potential and enjoy a thriving career in tech.

Open Data Manchester is a not-for-profit formed from a diverse group of open data advocates in 2010 that supports organisations to release data and helps people use it. We bring people together to share expertise and ideas, and think more about how we might use data to make Greater Manchester a better place to live. We run events, training and workshops, do research and create new projects that get the community involved, all designed to help more people understand data.

PyData MCR is the Manchester chapter of the International PyData Community. For Manchester based data people, to share and learn new things. All open data tooling welcome, we are not python focused.

R-Ladies Manchester are part of the global network of R-Ladies Meet-ups whose mission is to promote gender diversity within the R User community. Whilst we’ve been on hiatus over the course of the pandemic we have two fabulous new organisers, Zoe and Jasmine, joining Ellen to pick up the reigns and get events happening once again. When we are able to meet, we welcome anything and everything R related and have previously hosted show and tell presentations, networking events, coding surgeries and social quizzes. We’re really looking forward to coming back and seeing what everyone’s been working on – please reach out if you’ve been doing anything amazing or want to know more!

IKEA is on a journey from cash-and-carry to omnichannel retailing. This movement allows us to meet customers in diverse (digital) touchpoints and to fulfill their needs in differentiated and personalized ways. However, it also challenges us to orchestrate our fulfillment logistics differently and to balance new performance tradeoffs. In this talk, we will explore how mathematical optimization and data science play a pivotal role in tackling those challenges. We will delve into real-world examples of how optimization algorithms combined with data science and analytics are reducing costs and improving customer satisfaction for home deliveries. Additionally, we will discuss the technical and change-management challenges of implementing these technologies. Arturo Perez Rivera is a Data & Analytics Leader in the Fulfilment & Core Services domain in IKEA Retail (Ingka Group), where he leads various teams of data scientists, analysts and engineers. Saheli De is a Senior Data Scientist at Blue Radix, a company specializing in autonomous growing solutions for greenhouses. In 2024, she was honoured as a Top 3 finalist for the 'AI Impact Maker' award by Women in AI (WAI) Netherlands, recognizing her significant contributions to the AI community. There’s no shortage of data in most organizations, but the existence of data isn’t enough. How do you leverage that data, learn from it, and draw insights that will help you move your organization forward?

One answer is to visualize the data in the context of a diagram, which is surprisingly easy to do when you know a little bit about Visio and Power BI. In this session, you’ll learn how to create Visio diagrams that “light up” with several types of visualizations. You’ll also appreciate how easy it is to drop a Visio diagram into Power BI and link it with other visuals so you can slice and filter data across multiple visuals with one click. The presence of the Visio diagram in Power BI adds context: you know exactly which rooms are too hot; which virtual machines are running apps that have failed; which network switch needs to be replaced and exactly where it’s located.

The examples used in this session are from a real customer project and include facility diagrams that incorporate drilldown from a regional view to a building to a floor, and then use heat maps to show property maintenance issues. You'll also see a theme park map in which buildings light up based on data about equipment they contain. Though this session features two specific case examples, the concepts apply much more broadly: If you have a diagram and corresponding data, you can visualize it using tools you already have.

Calling all our London LoCers! Whether you're a seasoned developer, a coding newbie, or somewhere in between, join us for a refreshing and inspiring meetup in the beautiful surroundings of Hyde Park.

Enjoy a casual, friendly atmosphere in one of London's most iconic parks and exchange tips, tricks, and experiences with other coding ladies.

Feel free to bring along any snacks, picnic gear etc and don't forget to bring water and sun protection.

In the event that the weather is not good, we will meet at the The Mad Bishop & Bear inside Paddington station.
