Official Description

HER+Data MCR is a community working to connect, inspire, support and empower the NW UK’s Women in Data. Our goal is to bring together women who work in data or who would like to work in data - to support one another, share experiences and talk data - big or small! Whether you’re a student just embarking on a career or a seasoned data professional, this group is for you. We want to connect and inspire amazing data women with diverse expertise and experience.

For our August 2023 event, our friends Code and Stuff, Open Data Manchester, PyData MCR, and R-Ladies Manchester will join us to host a Manchester Data [and Tech] Community Summer Social to bring everyone together again and hear more about each of these groups and their activities. So please register to come along to connect and network with others in the Manchester data/tech community - everyone welcome!

The venue, food and drinks are very generously provided by Infinity Works. The event will take place at their Manchester hub: 5th Floor, No.2 Circle Square, 1 Symphony Park, Manchester, M1 7FS.

Code and Stuff are a coding and networking community for women and non-binary developers and code newbies in Manchester, with bi-weekly events. We believe that diversity in tech is really important and to balance the scale we are building a collaborative agile learning community to support more women and non-binary people getting into tech. Our ambition is to show women and non-binary developers and code newbies that anything is possible - and that with a bit of help and confidence they can realise their potential and enjoy a thriving career in tech.

Uplifting Customer Experience: AI in Retail and Agriculture

Greetings, data enthusiasts!

Our January meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 13th, at 5:30 pm! We will meet in person at: Rensselaer Chamber of Commerce, 90 4th Street, Troy, NY.

Please RSVP here if you are attending, so we can purchase an appropriate amount of food for everyone. Food will be ordered from a Bite of Xian in Troy. For this meeting, we are welcoming Scott Helmers, a Microsoft MVP hailing from the Boston area!

Our meeting schedule is as follows:

  • 5:30 PM: Food, soft drinks, and networking
  • 6:15 PM: Chapter news and announcements
  • 6:30 PM: Presentation

We usually wrap up between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM.

Scott helmers is presenting: Transforming Network and Facility Management with Visio and Power BI:

There’s no shortage of data in most organizations, but the existence of data isn’t enough. How do you leverage that data, learn from it, and draw insights that will help you move your organization forward?

One answer is to visualize the data in the context of a diagram, which is surprisingly easy to do when you know a little bit about Visio and Power BI. In this session, you’ll learn how to create Visio diagrams that “light up” with several types of visualizations. You’ll also appreciate how easy it is to drop a Visio diagram into Power BI and link it with other visuals so you can slice and filter data across multiple visuals with one click. The presence of the Visio diagram in Power BI adds context: you know exactly which rooms are too hot; which virtual machines are running apps that have failed; which network switch needs to be replaced and exactly where it’s located.

The examples used in this session are from a real customer project and include facility diagrams that incorporate drilldown from a regional view to a building to a floor, and then use heat maps to show property maintenance issues. You'll also see a theme park map in which buildings light up based on data about equipment they contain. Though this session features two specific case examples, the concepts apply much more broadly: If you have a diagram and corresponding data, you can visualize it using tools you already have.

This event was moved from 24 Jan due to the train strike. ---- Talk #1 📈🐛➡🦋🚀 Transform Your Business: A Roadmap to Being Data-Driven with Data Ops" Simon Pressler (Königsweg AI) Many organizations ask themselves: do we have a data treasure? - how can we find out and how do we start? In the current data-centric business environment, this question becomes increasingly relevant. Drawing from extensive experience in the field, this talk addresses those who are enthusiastic about data yet may find themselves at the outset of their journey, or uncertain about navigating their path to success. DataOps, an interdisciplinary field seamlessly integrates data analysis, software development, and system operations. This session aims to provide clarity and direction for unlocking the potential of your data assets, marking the beginning of a transformative expedition into effective data utilization.

Open Data Manchester is a not-for-profit formed from a diverse group of open data advocates in 2010 that supports organisations to release data and helps people use it. We bring people together to share expertise and ideas, and think more about how we might use data to make Greater Manchester a better place to live. We run events, training and workshops, do research and create new projects that get the community involved, all designed to help more people understand data.

PyData MCR is the Manchester chapter of the International PyData Community. For Manchester based data people, to share and learn new things. All open data tooling welcome, we are not python focused.

R-Ladies Manchester are part of the global network of R-Ladies Meet-ups whose mission is to promote gender diversity within the R User community. Whilst we’ve been on hiatus over the course of the pandemic we have two fabulous new organisers, Zoe and Jasmine, joining Ellen to pick up the reigns and get events happening once again. When we are able to meet, we welcome anything and everything R related and have previously hosted show and tell presentations, networking events, coding surgeries and social quizzes. We’re really looking forward to coming back and seeing what everyone’s been working on – please reach out if you’ve been doing anything amazing or want to know more!

Is your data/tech meetup community interested in joining us? Please email [email protected] to get involved with this event!

Meet up at the Pub! 2023-07-15 · 13:00

Our fellow LoCers!

We're hosting another structured networking* session and we'd love to see you there!

Last time we spoke about neurodiversity at work, getting promoted, the make-up of a good developer and many other interesting topics, with new and old faces.

Whether you're an introvert or extrovert, this is the perfect chance to meet like-minded individuals in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!

LOCATION: Please note we will be meeting in a pub and not Hyde Park due to unpredictable weather.

Pub location: The Mad Bishop & Bear, Paddington https://www.madbishopandbear.co.uk -> Upstairs, at Paddington station

*our version of structured networking will involve talking in small groups, discussing any burning questions or topics and then moving onto some pre-defined questions to guide the discussions for example, "what are you looking to do next in your career" or "what has been your best manager experience" or "how have you found working in tech in London". This keeps the conversation flowing and interesting while ensuring everyone can participate.
