Breaking Up with Massive Tables via Partitioning
2026-01-14 · 23:00
We're excited to host the first 2026 NYC PostgreSQL User Group Meetup on January 14, 2026! Agenda: 6p - 6:30p: Food & Networking 6:30p - 7:30p: Talk - Breaking Up with Massive Tables via Partitioning Location: DataDog office, New York Times Bldg, 620 8th Ave, New York, NY 10018 Talk: Breaking Up with Massive Tables via Partitioning Similar to memory configurations and Active-Active, when you find yourself Googling "How to partition a Postgres table", you're usually in a tight spot. However, although real-life use cases for partitioning typically start with a large, production table where uptime is critical, most documentation and blogs only cover setting up new partitioned tables -- ignoring the delicate work necessary to migrate safely with minimal downtime. This talk actionably addresses that knowledge gap: covering multiple ways to partition large, production tables. This talk will discuss:
Speaker: Chelsea Dole Chelsea Dole is a Database Engineer at a hedge fund with expertise in Postgres and database platform building. Before her current role, she worked in the startup world (most recently at Brex). She is an active speaker in the Postgres community and has delivered talks across the US, Europe, and Asia. Chelsea also serves as an organizer for PostgresConf NYC. She got her start as a DBA being “thrown in the deep end”, and seeks to present practical internals talks which speak to engineers in the grey area between “infra engineer” and “database person”. From Grapes to Graphs: Learning Wine Like an Algorithm
2025-07-22 · 18:30
Joanna Dabrowska
– Founder
@ Wine World Wonders
Wine is one of the world’s oldest and most culturally rich products — but it also offers a unique lens into how we classify, learn, and personalise experiences. In this talk, we’ll explore how the wine world is increasingly shaped by data and AI — from vineyard optimisation and market forecasting to taste profiling and personalised recommendations. We’ll also take a closer look at how algorithms approach a deceptively simple question: What wine will I enjoy? Using models like decision trees as metaphors, we’ll walk through how technology tries to learn human preferences — and where it often falls short. This session blends practical insights with a touch of humour and curiosity, offering both wine lovers and data enthusiasts a fresh perspective on what it means to make informed, intuitive decisions in a world of complexity. |

Another Brick in the Firewall: How to Secure Your Azure Data Platform
2025-06-05 · 12:00
Microsoft Data Platform Group Birmingham Thursday 5th June at 13:00 (BST - UK Time) Speaker: Grace O'Halloran Title: Another Brick in the Firewall: How to Secure Your Azure Data Platform Description: These days, most people want their Azure Data Platforms to be deployed in a secure network topology. As Data Engineers, we are often the ones that have who make this happen. The cloud has made it easy for us to deploy a virtual network here and a private endpoint there, but what does a good, networked data platform actually look like, and how does it work? Simple things become complex: How will my ADF Integration Runtime talk to my data sources? How do I securely access my resources to do development? In this session, we will look at some of the core network components which can be used to secure your data platform, what they are, and how to use them effectively. We will also look at some of the decisions that need to be made when moving your data platform inside a private network, which weren't a consideration previously. Some basic knowledge of what a virtual network is is required. By the end of this session, you should feel more confident in working with network components in Azure and how you can use them to secure your Data Platform. Agenda: 12.45 - 13:00 : Setup and Join 13:00 - 13:05 : Open Lobby and Introductions 13:05 - 14:00 : Another Brick in the Firewall: How to Secure your Azure Data Platform with Grace. Venue: Wherever you have access to a computer or smart device! This session will be online only! Other Details: *** Please note registration on MeetUp is required to gain access to the Teams link!*** Please contact us on Twitter or via email if you are having any issues joining, and we'll do everything we can to help.
