Dr Andrew Soltan is NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer and Research Fellow in Engineering at the University of Oxford, where he also practices as a Medical Oncology registrar (fellow). His work focuses on developing and deploying trustworthy AI in Oncology.
His research develops TrustedMDT, a multi-agent AI copilot for cancer care to provide automated summarisation, TNM staging, and treatment planning. In collaboration with Microsoft Health & Life Sciences, TrustedMDT integrates directly into the clinical workflow through Microsoft Teams.
Previously, he led the development and pilot of the CURIAL AI screening test for COVID-19 at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, described in The Lancet Digital Health as an “elegant breakthrough”. He also built and deployed a low-cost, privacy-preserving federated learning platform across four NHS Trusts.
Dr Soltan’s work -funded by the NIHR, Wellcome Trust, and Microsoft- has been featured by the BBC and the Financial Times. He has published in The Lancet Digital Health, Nature Machine Intelligence, and NPJ Digital Medicine. He holds a PhD in Clinical Machine Learning from the University of Cambridge, where he also graduated with Distinction in Medicine.
