Head of Data - Take2Eton Group

Helen Mairs is Head of Data for Take2Eton Group and is responsible for using analytical approaches to prioritise and deliver business improvements for the company and its clients, across all markets, including the UK, Europe and the US. She has had an eclectic career, working in the travel industry for over a decade, before returning to education to take a degree and masters. She subsequently worked as a research assistant, working on and publishing work on Soil Carbon fluxes I the Kalahari, to inform the impacts of land use practices on soil carbon budgets to government and non-government organisations. She worked extensively in the field, living out of a roof-top tent in the Salt pans of Botswana for a week, where she collected data for research purposes, surrounded by wildlife, including lions, who walked across the research site one morning.

She returned to the corporate travel industry and has now worked in data management for a number of travel management companies (a travel company that manages organisations’ corporate or business travel programs) and has won an award for her innovative work on data quality. She has delivered data quality improvements both within and outside the travel industry, working for organisations such as Capita Travel and Events, and more recently, Asda. Helen has played an instrumental role in establishing the data function at during her 18 months at Take2Eton, streamlining data processes, establishing data governance, and improving data quality. She’s worked closely with customers to improve the way data is communicated to drive actions from data analytics.

In the last year, Helen has worked extensively with Domo, initially to develop a reporting and analytics solution to answer complex questions around, and deliver greater interactivity with, our customer travel data. This has included developing an AI strategy, incorporating some of the existing Domo AI functionalities. More recently, she’s worked with Domo on an innovative travel booking app which uses contextualisation and personalisation to deliver personal choice to business travellers in a corporate travel environment.

Travel Management Companies (TMCs) are specialist travel providers that manage the business travel requirements of corporations of all sizes. They book and manage air travel, hotel stays, car hire, rail and other trip components for companies with varying budgets, traveller populations, policy requirements and service expectations, and deliver value in being able to control travel spend through policy management (e.g. class of travel), profile management (e.g. individual preferences), traveller tracking and delivering centralised booking and invoicing solutions.

A standard, linear model of data provision exists ubiquitously in the corporate travel industry whereby TMCs provide reporting to analyse and consolidate spend and adjust policy. Data is provided in standard formats, with little focus on specific customer questions and travel policy management is retrospective and antiquated.

In this presentation, delegates will see how Take2Eton is re-engineering our data landscape. From what started as project to improve our reporting and analytics platform by centralising data using a low code, highly governed, adaptable platform, we have now built a booking app, policy engine, data management app and data consolidation tool from ground up, improving customer interaction with our data at all stages of the lifecycle.
