IBM DS8880 and IBM Z Synergy

IBM® Z has a close and unique relationship to its storage. Over the years, improvements to the Z processors and storage software, the disk storage systems, and their communication architecture consistently reinforced this synergy. This IBM Redpaper™ Redbooks publication summarizes and highlights the various aspects, advanced functions, and technologies that are often pioneered by IBM, and that make the IBM Z® and the IBM DS8880 products an ideal combination. This paper is intended for those users who have some familiarity with IBM Z and the IBM DS8000® series and want a condensed but comprehensive overview of the synergy items up to the IBM z14™ server and the IBM DS8880 Release 8.51 firmware.

A Practical Guide to ICF Catalogs

This IBM® Redbooks® publication gives a broad understanding of integrated catalog facility (ICF) catalog environments. It includes suggestions for design, planning, and deployment tasks to help you create and maintain a balanced and efficient catalog environment. Four scenarios are provided to illustrate sample implementations of typical activities that are associated with an organization’s requirements. Chapter 5, “Record-level sharing support for ICF catalogs” describes Record Level Sharing (RLS) for Catalogs and shows the results of our tests in a controlled laboratory environment. This version of the book is set at the IBM z/OS V2R2 level. This publication is for readers who want to gain an understanding of ICF catalogs and the considerations and practices that surround an ICF catalog environment deployment.

IBM z/OS V2R2: Security

This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you to become familiar with the technical changes that were introduced to the security areas with IBM z/OS® V2R2. The following chapters are included: - Chapter 1, “RACF updates” on page 1: In this chapter, we describe the read-only auditor attribute, password security enhancements, RACDCERT (granular certificate administration), UNIX search authority, and RACF Remote sharing facility (RRSF). - Chapter 2, “LDAP updates” on page 13: In this chapter, we describe the activity log enhancements, compatibility level upgrade without LDAP outage, dynamic group performance enhancements, and replication of password policy attributes from a read-only replica. - Chapter 3, “PKI updates” on page 21: In this chapter, we describe the Network Authentication Service (KERBEROS) PKINIT, PKI nxm authorization, PKI OCSP enhancement, and RACDCERT (granular certificate administration) - Chapter 4, “z/OS UNIX search and file execution authority” on page 27: z/OS UNIX search authority, z/OS UNIX file execution, Examples for exploiting the new functions This book is one of a series of IBM Redbooks that take a modular approach to providing information about the updates that are included with z/OS V2R2. This approach has the following goals: - Provide modular content - Group the technical changes into a topic - Provide a more streamlined way of finding relevant information that is based on the topic We hope you find this approach useful and we welcome your feedback.

IBM z/OS DFSMShsm Primer

DFSMShsm provides space, availability, and tape mount management functions in a storage device hierarchy for both system-managed, and non-system-managed storage environments. DFSMShsm allows you to automate your storage management tasks, improving the productivity by effectively managing the storage devices. This IBM® Redbooks® publication provides technical storage specialists and storage administrators with the basic DFSMShsm knowledge for implementing and customizing DFSMShsm at the IBM z/OS® V1.13 level. Hints and tips about the daily operation, monitoring, and tuning are included. Sysplex environment considerations are also included. If you are implementing DFSMShsm for the first time, you will find valuable information for exploiting the DFSMShsm functions. If you are experienced, you will find that this publication can be used as an update to the latest DFSMShsm functions, and it shows how to use those functions in an existing DFSMShsm installation.
