Inaugural PyData Ireland Meetup @ Workday
2023-09-27 · 17:30
We would like to thank Workday Dublin for being our venue and food sponsor for this event! September monthly meetup agenda: 18:30 - 19:00: Networking over Pizza! 19:00 - 20:00: Talk Title: Causality inspired retrieval of human-object interactions from video Abstract: In this talk, the speaker will present a novel approach to retrieve human-object interactions from video data by utilizing the concept of causality. By applying causal inference methods, the aim is to detect the causal relationships between human actions and the objects present in their environment. This information is then used to develop a retrieval system that is both robust and accurate. The motivation behind this approach stems from the fact that human-object interactions are inherently causal, and understanding the causal mechanisms at play can significantly enhance retrieval performance. The talk will showcase experimental results that validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach and discuss potential applications in diverse fields such as robotics, surveillance, and human-computer interaction. Speaker's Bio: Dr. Liting Zhou is an Assistant Professor based in Dublin, Ireland, where she works in the School of Computing at Dublin City University. She completed her PhD in Computer Science at Dublin City University under the supervision of Dr. Cathal Gurrin, where she specialized in the field of multimedia and information retrieval. Dr. Zhou has published her research in several high-impact conferences and journals in her field, including ECIR and MMM. She has served as reviewer for several top-tier conferences and journals in multimedia and computer science. She also worked as demo chair and TPC chair in some international conferences including MMM 2023-2024, ECIR 2023. Dr. Liting Zhou's research interests lie in the areas of multimedia analysis and retrieval, with a particular focus on video understanding, deep learning, Natural Language Processing, Educational Technology and human-computer interaction. Her work aims to develop effective and efficient algorithms for analyzing and retrieving multimedia data that can be applied in various domains such as education, healthcare. 20:00 - 20:30: Networking and closing. |
