From lone wolf to the pack: scaling Power BI beyond the pbix

Speakers: Michael Van Braeckel & Jan Van Meirvenne

Session: It is very easy to build the best report in the world with Power BI on your own, but what to do if you are part of a dream team? Securely collaborating on analytical content, whilst also guarding its quality as it lands at the business doorstep is no longer a pipe dream. In this session we’ll show you how software engineering practices, combined with some good old platform governance can turn your report sweat shop in a full-blown Tesla factory.

Speakers: Michael Van Braeckel I’m a data enthusiast who has been working mostly as data engineer to support customers in leveraging their full data potential.

Jan Van Meirvenne Most 90’s kids loved Jurassic Parc for the dinosaurs. Jan loved it for the premise of a fully computerized environment. After building some of the movies ‘Unix system’ interfaces in the BASIC programming language, the passion for IT was sparked. The sense of wonder induced by that movie is something that Jan tries to pass on to every person he meets.

Actionable IoT driving automation and efficiency at water-link

Speaker: Maarten Herthoge

Session: water-link is a Belgian utility company that plays a vital role in providing safe, clean and reliable drinking water in Antwerp. Over the past decade, water-link replaced analog water meters with a digital version with the ability to send alarms, receive requests for automated operations and provide insightful IoT data. In partnership with delaware, they built a modern data platform powered by the Databricks Lakehouse paradigm and hosted on Azure. At the core of the Lakehouse platform lies an automated rule engine that processes the incoming alarms and other daily metrics without any human interaction. As such, Databricks Lakehouse acts as the central component that notifies all involved parties to take swift action when a problem arises in the drinking water supply. In this session, we’ll give you more information about this groundbreaking solution. water-link’s water landscape requires a smart, sustainable approach to ensure continued availability. The digital meter is already making a difference for their customers, employees, and how they collaborate with stakeholders and society in general. This truely makes them pioneers in Flanders. In this session Maarten Herthoge will walk you through the various use cases realised and the key lessons learned on delivering value with IoT.

Speaker: Maarten Herthoge Maarten Herthoge works at delaware BeLux as (big) data and Azure cloud architect and manages the alliance with Databricks wrt. data & AI. Combining functional and technical expertise in the Microsoft (Azure) ecosystem with a background in business economics, financial controlling and computer science engineering, he strives to turn data into an intelligent asset. He has a proven track record of almost 10 years in advising and managing complex data projects ranging from operationalizing AI solutions to tackling multi-million IoT device or multi-TB use cases. Maarten is recognized by Databricks as Solution Architect Champion as one of the first in EMEA and is a member of Databricks’ global VOC and PAB.
