1️⃣ “What on Earth is dbt?” Radek Tomsej, Head of Data Engineering, Alma Career

Too many people in the data world are still wondering what on Earth dbt is and why everyone else is talking about it. Radek is lifting the curtain around dbt’s seemingly magical capabilities to transform a humble data analyst into a fully fledged data developer (or an analyst that’s no longer that humble). Radek’s presentation is sprinkled with a liberal amount of jokes at the expense of our beloved SQL, so keep that in mind if you are particularly partial to it.

2️⃣ “dbt: Unleashing the Data Fever” Michal Kolacek, Head of Analytics Engineering, Slido Let's dive into the world of dbt, a transformative tool that fosters a data-passionate culture within your team. Michal is going to share real-life stories from Slido’s data journey, illustrating how dbt has streamlined operations, empowered everyone with data, and amplified our decision-making capabilities. This talk is all about how dbt can make your life a whole lot easier and spark enthusiasm for data everywhere you look.

3️⃣ “How dbt helps you sleep at night” Tomas Janotik, Senior Analytics Engineer, Infinite Lambda Testing and monitoring data quality are two of the greatest challenges in data modelling. dbt helps you identify and address issues as early as possible, giving millions of modellers peace of mind.

In his talk, Tomas is going to show you:

• How data quality testing works in dbt;
• What types of tests are available in dbt and how to implement them;
• How testing can build data trust and reliability within your organisation;
• How dbt enables you to easily create detailed documentation of your data models and tests.

🌟 Moderator Viktoria Karolova (Viki), Chief of Staff to CTO or that-one-non-engineer-in-engineering as she prefers to say Viki completed her graduate studies in the UK and went on to spend a year with an e-commerce start up in Thailand, which sparked her interest in tech and the startup world. Currently, she is a Chief of Staff to CTO at Slido, where she is focusing on enabling engineering teams by removing inefficiencies, facilitating discussion and bringing a lot of energy.

Analytics work mirrors product development: identify a user need, build a minimum viable product to address that need, evaluate the impact and iterate. In this talk, Michal Kolacek, analytics engineer at Slido describes how MVP-like thinking can help data teams counterbalance and complement the standardized approaches of dbt.

We will walk through Slido’s evolution in their approach, tooling and the vision of building better data products using Deepnote notebooks. Finally, we will take a look under the hood of the new dbt integration in Deepnote and outline how data teams can use it to accelerate model prototyping and metrics workflows.
