Take some food & drinks while socialising with your peers. 18.30: Pushing the limits – the next-level use cases for semantic layer (30m) (Johan Baltzar - Co-founder & CEO - Steep) The schoolbook examples of semantic layer – basic metrics defined centrally – is all well and good. But I’m interested in pushing the boundaries and see how far can we go using the same core tech. In this talk, I’ll explore the new territories for the semantic layer – Agentic AI models, Drill-downs, Maps! – to see what upcoming use cases are out there. 19:00: A strategic approach to testing Data Products (30m) (Stephen Murphy - SYNQ) With data teams' growing ambition to build business automation, AI systems, or customer-facing products, we must shift our mindset about data quality. Mechanically applied testing will not be enough; we need a more robust strategy similar to software engineering.

In this talk, I outline a new approach to data testing and observability anchored in the ‘Data Products’ concept and walk through the practical implementation of a production-grade analytics system with dbt as the backbone.The learnings will be applicable for data practitioners using dbt no matter if they're just getting started or work in a large enterprise.

19:30: Towards a deeper understanding of SQL (30m) (Lucas Paes - Software Engineer - dbt Labs) Over the last decade, the analytics engineering community has made a lot of progress towards a more sane and productive workflow. However, SQL today is still not a great software ecosystem. Users have to choose between different, proprietary dialects, and there are very few truly interoperable libraries, causing every company to reinvent the wheel, every single time. What if things were different? What if we could leverage compiler technology to make tools more interoperable and the ecosystem more open? In this presentation, I'll give you a peek into dbt Labs' vision for the future of analytics engineering, and where is dbt heading towards.

Akansha Bhagwanani Akanksha Bhagwanani is a Data Analytics Specialist in EMEA Data Analytics Practice at Google Cloud. She has over 15 years of experience in the data analytics industry, and is passionate about helping businesses use data to make better decisions. In her role, Akanksha works with customers to understand their data needs, design and implement data solutions, and train their staff on how to use Google Cloud Platform's data analytics tools. She helps large enterprises adopt GCP to drive business outcomes through scalable data platforms. As part of her focus on data and analytics, Akanksha also has a keen interest in data governance and helps GCP customers adopt data governance in a hybrid and cloud first world.

18.45 - 19.15 🎤 Presentation: Leveraging your dbt metadata to build powerful automation - Fernando Brito (SELECT) Every dbt project exposes metadata that can be used to introspect and augment the project itself. Be inspired to build your own automation by learning how Fernando developed an open-source project to automatically connect dashboards from a business intelligence tool with the dbt models it consumes, exposing their relationships on dbt's data lineage.

Fernando is a Lead Data Engineer with a background in Software Engineering. He is passionate about DataOps and he has built data platforms from scratch that serve terabytes of data to hundreds of internal users. Today he works as a consultant on SELECT, a cost management platform for data platforms.

Over the past few years, the public sector has used AI to uncover insights from data, to enhance human intelligence and to automate business processes. As adoption and use of AI technologies are growing rapidly, new sets of challenges occur, i.e., a lack of knowledge and understanding of how AI technologies can create business value, a lack of understanding unique methodology used to examine the effects of AI, a lack of organizational readiness and subject matter experts.

Speakers Bio:

Karolina is a Product Manager in Applied AI at Swedish Public Employment Service. She is responsible for managing entire life cycles of AI systems. Ethical and human-centric AI, value creation, business efficiency and cost reduction. Co-lead of the Swedish National Assignment on AI in the public sector.

Andreas is an AI Architect at the Swedish Public Employment Service. With a rich history in AI, from social media analysis to generative models, he's now delving into a cutting-edge job recommendation system concept.

Automate everything: using Python to extend the power of dbt at Voi

Voi is a data-savvy company with dozens of Data Scientists, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and Machine Learning engineers working full-time with data. One of the central pieces of our data technology stack is dbt, an open-source data transformation tool that brings engineering best practices and modernizes how we transform data in a data warehouse.

In this presentation, Fernando will talk about a Python open-source project developed at Voi that automates the creation of dbt exposures, a dbt feature that allows us to express what external data dependencies exist outside our dbt project.

Fernando Brito is a Staff Data Engineer at Voi, acting as the Tech Lead of the Data Platform team. He joined Voi almost 4 years ago as the first full-time Data Engineer in the company and today he works with data warehouses, data pipelines, data operations, and data developer experience.
