IBM System z9 109 Technical Introduction

This IBM Redbook introduces the IBM System z9 109 (z9-109), which offers a continuation of the IBM scalable mainframe servers. The z9-109 server is based on z/Architecture and provides extensions to the architecture. In addition to increased performance and expansion options, particular emphasis has been placed on the integration of the z9-109 into a complete system and software environment.

IBM eServer zSeries 990 Technical Guide

The IBM Eserver zSeries® 990 scalable server provides major extensions to the existing zSeries architecture and capabilities. The concept of Logical Channel Subsystems is added, and the maximum number of Processor Units and logical partitions is increased. These extensions provide the base for much larger zSeries servers. This IBM® IBM Redbooks publication is intended for IBM systems engineers, consultants, and customers who need to understand the zSeries 990 features, functions, availability, and services. IBM Eserver zSeries 990 Technical Introduction, SG24-6863 Note that the information in this book includes features and functions announced on April 7, 2004, and that certain functionality is not available until hardware Driver Level 55 is installed on the z990 server.

IBM eServer zSeries 890 Technical Introduction

This IBM Redbooks publication introduces the IBM eServer zSeries 890, which represents the continuation of the scalable servers featured with the IBM eServer zSeries 990. The z890 is based on z/Architecture, the zSeries building blocks of the z990, and the virtualization technology of passed sever families. It is designed to be resilient in the unpredictable on demand world. The z890 is a single model server with a wide range of capacity settings, delivering significantly improved granularity and enriched functions over its predecessor. At the same time, the z890 is also introducing the new eServer zSeries Application Assist Processor (zAAP), which provides a Java execution environment. This publication provides information on the hardware and software features available with the z890. It also includes planning and migration considerations. This technical introduction is intended for hardware planners, system engineers, and consultants who need to understand the capabilities of the z890.

Getting Started with the IBM 2109 M12 FICON Director

This IBM Redbooks publication discusses how to install, tailor, and configure the IBM 2109 M12 FICON Director, in conjunction with the FICON topologies supported by IBM eServer zSeries (800, 900, and 990) and 9672 Generation 5 and Generation 6 servers. We focus on the hardware installation, as well as the software definitions needed to provide connectivity for the supported FICON environments. This book provides planning information and FICON Director setup information. We also include helpful utilities for monitoring and managing the IBM 2109 M12 FICON Director. This document is intended for system engineers, SAN administrators, and system programmers who will plan and install IBM 2109 M12 FICON Directors. A good background in systems planning, hardware and cabling infrastructure planning, and zSeries I/O definitions (HCD or IOCP), as well as Fibre Channel or FICON Directors, is assumed.

Getting Started with the INRANGE FC/9000 FICON Director

This IBM Redbooks publication discusses how to install, tailor, and configure the INRANGE FC/9000 FICON Director, in conjunction with the FICON topologies supported by zSeries and 9672 Generation 5 and Generation 6 servers. It focuses on the hardware installation as well as the software definitions needed to provide connectivity for supported FICON environments. This book provides planning information and FICON Director setup information. Also included are helpful utilities for monitoring and managing the INRANGE FC/9000 FICON Director environment. This document is intended for system engineers, SAN administrators, and system programmers who will plan and install INRANGE FC/9000 FICON Directors. A good background in systems planning, hardware and cabling infrastructure planning, and zSeries I/O definitions (HCD or IOCP), as well as Fibre Channel or FICON Directors, is assumed.

Fiber Saver (2029) Implementation Guide

IBM offers a Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) solution with the IBM Fiber Saver (2029). The IBM 2029 provides data transport capabilities for data center applications such as: -Data center backup and recovery -DASD mirroring -Tape vaulting and remote printing -Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) -LAN interconnectivity -Channel extension -Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) -Storage Area Network (SAN) This IBM Redbooks publication is for technical professionals who are interested in a metropolitan area network (MAN) solution for their data center, using DWDM technology. This document gives a broad understanding of the IBM 2029 architecture and application, and provides information to help plan, implement, configure, and manage an IBM 2029 network. It also contains a discussion on how to design/create a solution to migrate from an IBM 9729 to an IBM 2029. A walkthrough of the commissioning and provisioning process, as well as practical examples for problem determination, are also included.
