Campbell Vertesi (GitHub: ohthehugemanatee) is Microsoft’s CTO for the Red Hat partnership, driving joint innovation in cloud, virtualization, and hybrid technologies. With 25+ years at the intersection of enterprise and Open Source, Campbell has led major engineering efforts for Fortune 100 companies and NGOs—from Volkswagen to the American Red Cross and the United Nations—accelerating their impact while helping them embrace Open Source culture. Campbell’s tech journey began by yanking the CPU from a running 286, setting the tone for a career of bold experiments. Before Microsoft, Campbell was a recognized Open Source leader, contributing to large-scale projects and speaking at events around the world. Outside tech, Campbell co-founded the international opera band THE CAST and is the proud parent of three delightfully nerdy kids—who now swear at the Kubernetes cluster in the closet instead of the family PC. Someday, Campbell hopes one of them will sigkill the kubelet in a live cluster.
