Data Management Office, Delivery Manager - Ofcom

Kayt Button is a Data Product Manager at Ofcom. She began her academic career in biotech research undertaking a PhD in biopesticide formulation. After developing a lifelong condition and accompanying disability, she had to stop her research. After learning to live with her disability, she worked in partnership with her husband in their Geodemographic consultancy and returned to university to attain her Master's in GIS. After deciding she wanted a change, she worked in the third sector before returning to university to complete a PhD in Environmental History. Since then, she has worked for Ofgem, DHSC and is now employed at Ofcom, where she was in the Data Management Office and now works across data products, amongst other projects. A fundamental desire to seek data to be used as evidence has always underpinned my work. I believe there is a right way and many wrong ways to do this. If done right, it doesn’t add value; it provides value, and when combined with other data, the value increases. In my product management, I want to help unlock this value from our data and provide that to everyone who needs it.

Navigate the complexities of today's digital and data landscape in our panel discussion that underscores the essential role of data governance in the era of accelerating mis- and dis-information. As Big Data ceases to be a buzzword and transforms into the lifeblood of decision-making, governance is elevated from a regulatory compliance requirement to a differentiator and a beacon of trust. This session goes beyond exploration of governance as a data hygiene factor and delves into the relationship between governance, value creation, and elicitation of trust—particularly for decisions steered by AI as we travel into the world of automated risk management and decision making.
