Complete your event RSVP here: https://gdg.community.dev/events/details/google-gdg-cloud-london-presents-tech-debt-in-startups-amp-multi-cloud-solutions/. ------------------------ GDG Cloud London is thrilled to be partnering with Skyscanner for a deep dive into the world of Tech debt management, AI and Google Cloud. The event will be held at Skyscanner London office, at Level 5, Ilona Rose House, Manette St, London W1D 4AL. This meet-up is a unique opportunity to connect with fellow Cloud and AI enthusiasts, industry practitioners, and researchers in a dynamic and interactive setting. Whether you are a seasoned Cloud and AI professional or just curious about how to tackle tech debt in startups, AI and Google Cloud, this meet-up is for you! Join us for an insightful and thought-provoking discussion on the forefront of Cloud innovation and practices. We are going to have some pizza and networking at the end! Don't miss out, RSVP now! Agenda 6:00 PM: Arrivals and Check In 6:30 PM: Welcome / Community Update 6:45 PM: Natalie Godec - But can you really run your app on 2 clouds at the same time? We've all heard about this concept - you should run your app in more than one zone, more than one region, more than one... cloud? But how can this be done, without a major re-architecture of every component of every system? Let me take you through a real world implementation, where the 2 clouds were AWS and GCP, and the app - a major platform that has to deal with images. We'll look into the infra, networking and DNS setup, how to configure data availability and consistency, and what happened when we actually switched dual run in production. Whether you need multi-cloud for resilience, for serving customers with different requirements, or you just want to see who's mad enough to implement this - this talk is for you. 7:15 PM: Alessandro De Maria - Code & Reload: A Call of Duty "Zombie mode" inspired approach to Technical Debt in Startups In this talk, we'll explore the parallels between surviving Call of Duty's Zombie mode and managing technical debt in startups. Just as players face increasingly difficult zombie waves with brief moments to regroup, startups experience intense development sprints that accumulate technical debt, followed by critical recovery periods. Learn practical strategies for recognizing when to sprint and when to strengthen your codebase foundations, how to prioritize technical debt paydown during "breather" phases, and why ignoring these cycles leads to inevitable project death. Whether you're a developer, tech lead, or founder, you'll walk away with actionable frameworks to survive your startup's technical zombie apocalypse 8:00 PM: Pizza & Networking Speakers Natalie Godec - Zencore (GDE in Cloud Platform, Senior Cloud Architect) Google Developer Expert in Cloud Platform Alessandro De Maria - Cusp.AI (VP Platform Engineering) Partner Skyscanner (https://skyscanner.net/) Complete your event RSVP here: https://gdg.community.dev/events/details/google-gdg-cloud-london-presents-tech-debt-in-startups-amp-multi-cloud-solutions/. |

Agenda 6:00 PM: Arrivals and Check In 6:30 PM: Welcome / Community Update 6:45 PM: Natalie Godec - Balancing tight security with fluid devex, powered by GKE The most secure server is one that is disconnected from the Internet and unplugged. And the most convenient environment for devs is where they have admin access to production and the freedom do what they want. How do you marry the two? Let's look at a real-world scenario where we built a cloud-native fintech platform on GKE. The vision? A robust, flexible, and secure foundation that supports SOC2-compliant deployments and empowers developers to be as productive as possible, contrary to the typical for the financial sector blown-out processes and approval chases. This solution is powered by Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and the cloud's niftiest security tools from the Secure Supply Chain toolkit. 7:15 PM: Jai Campbell - Site Reliability Engineering: Adapting to the AI Revolution Large language models (LLMs) capabilities and adoption are increasing at an exponential rate. With this change in technology, there is an increased emphasis on ensuring the reliability of applications and services that utilise AI including the platforms they are deployed on. In this presentation I will discuss the transformative impact of AI across various industries and highlight the crucial role of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) in managing and maintaining AI-driven systems. I will provide an overview of AI's integration into technology, discussing the benefits and challenges, such as improved decision-making, automation, data privacy, and ethical considerations. I will define the SRE role, contrasting traditional responsibilities with those in AI-enhanced environments, including, MLOPS, AI model deployment, advanced monitoring, and incident response. We will have an indepth look at essential tools and technologies for SREs in the early stages of the AI era, Gemini for Google Cloud, AI integration with CI/CD pipelines, AI powered code suggestions and code reviews, root cause analysis, advanced monitoring and alerting. I will end the session taking a look at future trends, emphasising the synergy between AI and SREs, the importance of continuous skill development, and the ethical responsibilities of SREs in ensuring reliable and responsible AI systems. 8:00 PM: Raffle and Networking Speakers Natalie Godec - Zencore (GDE in Cloud Platform, Senior Cloud Architect) Google Developer Expert in Cloud Platform Jai Campbell - Jellyfish (Lead Cloud & Security Engineer) Partners Zeren (https://www.zerenglobal.com/) Skyscanner (https://skyscanner.net/) Complete your event RSVP here: https://gdg.community.dev/events/details/google-gdg-cloud-london-presents-is-your-platform-ready-for-those-cutting-edge-ai-workloads/. |
