Microservices rules: What good looks like
2025-11-24 · 17:30
Chris Richardson
– Developer and Architect
The microservice architecture has become increasingly popular over the past decade. Its key benefits include significantly improving the developer experience and accelerating software delivery. Sadly, however, microservices have often been widely misunderstood and used inappropriately. As a result, many organizations have struggled to benefit from their adoption. To prevent this from happening, 11 development and architecture rules (a.k.a. best practices) have been defined. |

2025-03-25 · 17:30
On March, 25th 2025, we have a double session of presentations together with our partner, adesso SE. Sessions
Location Prinzenstraße 34, 10969 Berlin Agenda 18:30 - doors open 18:50 - warm welcome by JUG leader Sandra Ahlgrimm 19:00 - first session Abstracts How to Get Trustworthy Enterprise AI in Your Favorite IDE In this session, Ed Burns will explore how to integrate trustworthy enterprise AI into your favorite Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Attendees will learn about the best practices and tools available to ensure that AI solutions are reliable, secure, and effective within their development workflows. This session is ideal for developers looking to enhance their projects with cutting-edge AI technologies while maintaining high standards of trustworthiness and performance. State of the Architecture Antipattern Community A year ago, they launched the community website dedicated to Software Architecture Antipatterns. Inspired by a talk from Stefan Tilkov, they have diligently collected various architecture antipatterns along with case studies where they have occurred over the past years. In this session, Andreas Voigt will present the resulting catalog and delve into some interesting antipatterns. This is just the beginning; they aim to expand this as a community project. Therefore, Andreas looks forward to discussing these and other antipatterns with you after the presentation and throughout the event. Speaker Ed Burns is the Principal Architect at Microsoft working for Java on Azure. Ed has worked on a wide variety of client and server side web technologies since 1994, including NCSA Mosaic, Netscape 6, Mozilla, the Sun Java Plugin, Jakarta Tomcat and JavaServer Faces, and most recently, the Servlet specification. Ed has lead or co-lead the expert groups for Servlet and JavaServer Faces. Ed has published four books with McGraw-Hill: JavaServerFaces: The Complete Reference (2006), Secrets of the Rockstar Programmers: Riding the IT crest (2008) JavaServer Faces 2.0: The Complete Reference (2010) and Hudson Continuous Integration In Practice (2013). To learn more about his books or projects, you can visit his website https://ridingthecrest.com. Andreas Voigt is a Principal Software Architect at adesso SE. He has extensive experience in identifying and addressing architecture antipatterns. Andreas has spoken at several notable conferences, including JavaLand. He is dedicated to expanding the knowledge and application of architecture antipatterns within the community. A big thank you to adesso SE for hosting the event and generously providing food and drinks during the event. Your innovative approach and commitment to excellence are greatly appreciated! |

Holy Tech Night - in Berlin
2024-12-11 · 17:00
Let’s celebrate the Holy Tech Night. On December 11, 2024, I invite the entire Microsoft community to the Holy Tech Night. This time, it will be a bit different. I have invited three speakers to talk about their favorite topics. First, the wonderful Luise Freese, who is traveling all the way from Düsseldorf to tell us about deploying to the Azure Cloud and why it can be done on Fridays. Then, we have Sandra Ahlgrimm from Microsoft and Fabian Moritz, both of whom are involved in AI and will be sharing their insights. I am still waiting for the details and will provide them here as soon as I have them. The plan is to provide you with gingerbread and punch/mulled wine during the presentations so that we can celebrate the Holy Tech Night properly. I am particularly pleased that adesso SE has agreed to provide us with their premises. The doors will open at 6:00 PM, and after a short warm-up phase, we will start the presentations at 6:15 PM, each lasting about 40 minutes. This Meetup will be hosted by the Berlin Azure Meetup Group, but of course you're invited too. Content Luise Freese: (EN) Let's deploy on fridays?! "Let’s be real—deploying on a Friday can feel like tempting fate. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Luise will show you how to ditch the YOLO mindset and replace it with a secure, governed, and totally stress-free approach to Azure deployments. We will use Azure Container Registries (and secure them properly) and combine this approach with Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC)—think RBAC, but smarter and way more flexible. This will make sure, that only the right people (or apps) can access your resources. But wait, there’s more! Through live demos, you’ll see how these tools and strategies come together to transform chaotic, nerve-wracking deployments into confident, repeatable workflows. By the end, you’ll be ready to deploy on any day of the week—even Fridays—with zero fear." Sandra Ahlgrimm: TBD Fabian Moritz: (DE) Copilot Studio Agents - Die Revolution in der Software-Entwicklung? Was sind Agents? Was nicht? Was sind Copilot Agents? Was ist der Unterschied zu Copilot Studio Agents? Welche Rolle spielt Azure AI? Und warum sollte ich mich überhaupt damit beschäftigen? In dieser Session wollen wir das Thema vertiefen, beleuchten und auseinander nehmen. Mit vielen Demos, versprochen. |
