Job Hunt in 2024: When Life Gives You Lemons Lula Leus Every software engineer goes through the process of looking for a new job from time to time, making it a constantly relevant topic. In “Job Hunt in 2024: When Life Gives You Lemons”, I share my journey as an experienced software engineer navigating a tough job market in 2024.

This talk has two objectives - give advice and provide inspiration. To achieve the first, I provide practical advice on preparing for interviews from my recent experiences. I break down the engineering hiring process into five interview types: HR Initial, Tech Initial, Live Coding/Take Home Assignment, System Design, and Behavioral Interviews. I’ll describe each type and offer actionable preparation tips, including the most helpful resources I used.

To achieve the second objective and provide inspiration, I go beyond technical “how-to” advice. I share my personal story of a four-month job search involving 60 applications and many rejections. I shine a light on numerous hours of preparation and the heartbreak of being rejected repeatedly before receiving a few precious offers I worked so hard to get.

This talk aims to help women engineers currently job hunting with ready-to-use practical tips and inspire others with a feel-good story of resilience and perseverance.

Michael Helbling – host , Moe Kiss – host

Have you ever seen a one-man show in the theater? It's awesome. Unless it's terrible. The same can be said for one-person digital analytics teams. It can be awesome, in that you get to, literally, do EVERY aspect of analytics. It can be terrible because, well, you've got to do EVERYTHING, and it's easy for the fun stuff to get squeezed out of the day. On this episode, we head back Down Under for a chat with Moe Kiss, product (and digital) analyst at THE ICONIC. Whether you pronounce "data" as DAY-tuh or DAH-tuh, Moe's perspective will almost certainly motivate you find new ways to push yourself and your organization forward. People, places, things, sites, and doodads mentioned in this episode were many, and they include: R, Tableau, Snowplow, adjust, Datalicious, Moe's post on Analysis of Competing Hypotheses, Moe's post on getting started in digital analytics, Jeffalytics.com, RSiteCatalyst, The Millenial Whoop, Kabaddi, Michael Yates, ABC (the Australian Broadcasting Corporation), an Event Tracking Naming Strategy from Chris Le, Simo Ahava, Nico Miceli, and Towards Universal Event Analytics - Building an Event Grammar by Snowplow co-founder Alex Dean.
