DORA metrics on a shoestring
2024-03-07 · 18:00
gerald schmidt
– Data Platform Engineering Lead
@ DS Smith
There’s a lot of buzz around performance metrics right now, but the ones measured most often are the DORA metrics: deployment frequency, lead time, mean time to recovery and failure rate. The problem is that it can be expensive to collect them and prepare them for presentation automatically. This talk is about a lightweight and open source DORA metrics controller that works with any CI/CD tool and requires only Kubernetes, Prometheus and Grafana to run. |

Span Profiling with Grafana Pyroscope
2024-03-07 · 18:00
christian simon
– Software Engineer
@ Grafana Labs
Profiling helps developers understand which part of their application (ideally down to the function and line of code) is slowing it down. With that insight you are able to effectively optimize your application. In this talk I will show how using Grafana Pyroscope you can collect, aggregated and visualize Profiles. We will also look at how combining distributed tracing using Grafana Tempo, can help understanding resource consumption per request. While there is a focus on the Go ecosystem, most of the content of the talk is transferable to other languages. |

Taming the swarm of high-cardinality Istio metrics - using recording rules to produce usable Istio metrics
2024-03-07 · 18:00
aaron walker
– Senior Site Reliability Engineer
@ Beamery
Istio is a service mesh that adds security, observability and connectivity to micro-service architectures. Istios sidecar-based approach means that a vast amount of metrics data gets generated, which only increases as you scale both the size and complexity of your systems. In this talk, we'll discover the issues that Istio caused our self-hosted monitoring stack and how we can solved them by re-evaluating the data that we actually wanted. In addition, we'll explore how we manage our observability systems at scale, allowing developers to manage their dashboards and alerts. |
