Join us for an enlightening Observability-focused meetup hosted at the HelloFresh office! This event is a unique opportunity to gain insights into Grafana and hear expert talks from HelloFresh and Reddit! As always there will be plenty of time for networking and some delicious pizza!

IMPORTANT: In order to send you the attendee confirmation and for you to access the building, we'll need your email. Please sign up here. Your email will not be shared or used for any other purpose.

Also, please note that photographs will be taken throughout the meetup.

Agenda:

18:00 Introductions & snacking time Kick off the evening with a warm welcome, even warmer pizzas and some cold drinks!

18:30 Talks: 1. Zero-Code Application Observability using Grafana Beyla

  • Setting up the observability strategy for your applications requires instrumenting your code. In some cases, this task can be really tedious. Thanks to revolutionary technologies like eBPF, enabling this process requires minimal effort. Join us in this session and discover how, with Grafana Beyla, you can achieve zero-code instrumentation for your applications. Marc Tudurí is a Prometheus contributor, OpenTelemetry member and Software Engineer at Grafana.

2. Making Canary Deployments Easy with SLOs

  • Services should be tracking those anyway (e.g. how fast does a service respond, how many errors does it generate) When deploying a new version, we're currently (more or less) instantly swapping out the application for everyone. With the Canary Releases, we're starting to roll out a new version to a certain percentage of users and checking the SLO's to automatically. Richard Palm is an Engineer at HelloFresh, focussing on SRE and Automation tasks.

3. Scaling Thanos at Reddit for Enhanced Observability

  • Learn how Reddit uses a custom monitoring operator to manage Thanos and Prometheus to scale their metrics deployment beyond 45 million samples per second and 600 million active series. To achieve this they run thousands of Prometheus instances of variying sizes managed by their internally developed Kubernetes controller. They use Thanos for long-term storage and global single pane of glass querying across this massive deployment. Learn about the operator, other tools they've developed, and the challenges they've faced along the way. Ben Kochie is a long time Prometheus contributor and Site Reliability Engineer at Reddit.
