Nikhil Malhotra is the Chief Innovation Officer and global head of AI and emerging technologies business in Tech Mahindra with 23+ years of experience. Nikhil is also a World Economic Forum AI Fellow working on responsible AI and Quantum ethics.
Nikhil has been a researcher all his life and is now leading the research and business growth of AI and Quantum Computing within Tech Mahindra. His area of research is how quantum Computing, AI and neuroscience would inspire the growth of AI and next change in society, business and humanity. He has won numerous awards including the 2020 , 2021 and 2023 Innovation Congress award for the most innovative leader in India. He has very recently won the CTO of the year award 2024.Nikhil is also a Tedx speaker and an author of a best seller book – Courage, the journey of an innovator.
Nikhil and team have produced a number of first including finding of therapeutic molecule against covid using both computational and non computational means, which was then achieved using quantum machine learning to creating an app for farmers for making them self reliant. Project Indus is his seminal effort to build Indic LLM(large language model) which Tech Mahindra launched in 2021. The model is 1.2 billion parameters, a small one but yet pips the large models in performance and dialects. He has transitioned from research and now spends time defining the technology strategy for the organization with businesses and customers.
Nikhil holds a masters degree in computing with specialization in distributed computing from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne and is an avid physicist .
Nikhil currently resides in Pune with his wife Shalini and sons Angad and Rudra.
