Deepak Bansal is the General Manager and Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, where he leads the Azure Network Services engineering and product management teams. In this role, he is responsible for the development and operation of the network and platform software and services that form the foundation of Microsoft Azure’s global cloud infrastructure. His team builds and runs core Azure Network Services offerings, including Virtual Networks, Load Balancers, DNS, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, Azure Web Application Firewall, Azure Front Door, and others. Deepak also drives Azure’s network security strategy and capabilities, including investments in micro-segmentation, DDoS protection, and application-layer security. He co-leads the "Secure Networks" workstream within Microsoft’s Secure Futures Initiative (SFI), which focuses on evolving Azure’s infrastructure and services to meet the growing demands for security across Microsoft’s cloud platforms. Deepak joined Microsoft in 2003 and is a founding member of Azure joining in 2008. Prior to Azure, he led the redesign of the Windows networking stack and contributed to key efforts such as IPv6 enablement. He has also contributed to open-source networking through initiatives like DASH (Disaggregated APIs for SONiC hosts and DPUs) and ReTiNA (Real-Time Network Analytics for cloud-native workloads). Deepak began his career at Iospan Wireless and Motorola. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from MIT and a Bachelor’s degree from IIT Delhi.
