Title & Speakers Event
Soren Rehn – Analytics Engineer - Capital On Tap , Ben Jones – Analytics Engineer - Capital On Tap

Every day, banking institution Capital on Tap is calculating thousands of credit scores, directly impacting how their customers receive credit cards or additional lines of credit. Data quality is paramount – incorrect credit scores can set off a wide range of long-lasting financial implications for their customers, which is why the team turned to data observability with Monte Carlo, to improve their data – and credit score – reliability.

But, as with any new tool in your tech stack, onboarding new processes for key users is just as important as onboarding the tool itself.

Join this session with Ben Jones and Soren Rehn, to hear why the Analytics Engineering team at Capital on Tap decided to invest in a data observability tool, how their processes play a critical role in maximizing the tool’s value (including a few missteps and recalibrations along the way), and the strategies employed to garner widespread success and buy-in over time.

Title: Is a Chatbot a CHARTBot? Gauging the data visualization capabilities of Generative AI

Abstract: In the past year, large language models like ChatGPT and others have become widely used (and abused). Their makers have added image recognition capabilities, so the question arises whether they are capable of reading and interpreting charts, graphs, and maps. In this session, we'll consider what they can and can't do today, and we'll determine whether there are some valid use-cases for employing them in a data visualization workflow.

Bio: Ben Jones is the Co-Founder and CEO of Data Literacy, a training and education company that's on a mission to help people learn the language of data. Ben teaches data visualization at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, he's the author of eight books about data and entrepreneurship, including Data Literacy Fundamentals, Leading in the Age of Data, and Avoiding Data Pitfalls.

This event is hosted online with Datadog, the unified observability and security platform. See our jobs page for data visualization software engineering opportunities.
