Title & Speakers Event

OpenSearch has become a cornerstone of open source search and observability, empowering developers and organizations to derive meaningful insights from unstructured data at scale. This year marks a significant milestone in its journey, with OpenSearch officially joining The Linux Foundation, further cementing its position in the open source ecosystem. In this session we’ll introduce OpenSearch, from indexing and analyzing unstructured logs to full observability capabilities across tracing, monitoring and security. We’ll share latest improvements in query performance and scalability, and real-time analytics, as well as its expanding ecosystem with new plugins and SDKs in multiple programming languages, and its compatibility with cloud-native environments.

Optimizing Kubernetes 2025-03-11 · 18:45

Kubernetes is easy, isn't it? Creating Kubernetes cluster in public cloud take a few minutes, deploying an application it's like same. but how can we make sure that our cluster scales in an efficient way? Let see what Kubernetes and the ecosystem can do you us.

Node Scaling Optimization 2025-03-11 · 18:30
Bertram Hass – CloudOps Engineer @ Mercedes-Benz.io

Managing Kubernetes clusters at scale is no easy task! When it comes to efficiently autoscaling nodes, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for every application use case. The challenge lies in implementing centralized best practices, such as bin-packing and workload right-sizing while giving developers the flexibility to tailor the solution to their needs. This talk shares our platform team's journey from using a cluster autoscaler with static instance types to node scaling with dynamic instance sizes at scale. Along the way, we optimized costs and realized that reliability best practices, like Pod Disruption Budgets, Topology Spread Constraints, and resource rightsizing are more than just nice-to-have.

Hop on the Flatcar for a ride! Flatcar is a specialized operating system deeply integrated into the CNCF ecosystem. Discover how you can smoothly transition from project work to actively participating in other CNCF initiatives. We will explore what is Flatcar, how is it part of the landscape of Special Purpose Operating Systems Working Group (wg-sp-os). What makes Flatcar specialised for running Container workloads and other workloads like WebAssembly (WASM). All while contributing upstream to projects like Gentoo, systemd-sysext, and CAPI.

In the first part of the session the Kubernetes journey of Mercedes-Benz.io will be shared from it's first adoption with a single cluster in 2018 to the foundation of a platform for more than 50 product teams nowadays. The second half will give an overview on our aim for end-to-end responsibility of our developer teams providing a self-service first platform by leveraging tools like Crossplane, Kyverno and others.
