The IBM 2029 provides data transport capabilities for data center applications such as: -Data center backup and recovery -DASD mirroring -Tape vaulting and remote printing -Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) -LAN interconnectivity -Channel extension -Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) -Storage Area Network (SAN) This IBM Redbooks publication is for technical professionals who are interested in a metropolitan area network (MAN) solution for their data center, using DWDM technology. This document gives a broad understanding of the IBM 2029 architecture and application, and provides information to help plan, implement, configure, and manage an IBM 2029 network. It also contains a discussion on how to design/create a solution to migrate from an IBM 9729 to an IBM 2029. A walkthrough of the commissioning and provisioning process, as well as practical examples for problem determination, are also included.

Understanding IBM eServer pSeries Performance and Sizing

This IBM Redbooks publication is an update to the successful first edition of Understanding IBM RS/6000 Performance and Sizing, SG24-4810 that was published in 1997. It gives a broad overview of IBM RS/6000 and IBM eServer pSeries performance and sizing. Contained in this book is a close-up, performance related view of the different hardware architectures IBM offers in its RS/6000 and eServer pSeries systems, including system, processor, memory, storage, and network architectures. One chapter is dedicated to general sizing rules for a number of environments such as database sizing, IBM HTTP server sizing, Net.Commerce sizing, and Lotus Domino sizing. The reader will also find a description of the industry benchmarks that are performed on IBM systems as well as an overview of AIX performance tools. This book is intended to be a handbook for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of IBM RS/6000 and IBM eServer pSeries architectures from a performance perspective.

IBM Communications Server for AIX, V6 New Features and Implementation Scenarios

This new release of Communications Server for AIX includes many new features and functions that make CS/AIX a more important player in bridging the e-business gap between the Internet and critical legacy data applications. Support for secure TN3270 communications with SSL and load balancing with SLP are critical in insuring secure and consistent communications with the host. Support for high performance routing, branch network configurations, and channel attachment are significant in that they allow placement of Communications Server anywhere it benefits performance most in the customer's IP or SNA network.

IBM Component Broker on System/390

Component Broker is a unique product in the marketplace. It is composed of an industry-leading set of technologies that facilitate the development and deployment of distributed object applications. More specifically, the product is designed to meet the needs of object-oriented programmers responsible for building mission-critical, enterprise-level, transactional application solutions. At its core, Component Broker implements an architecture that defines an object-oriented programming model, an extensible framework supporting the rich composition of business objects from new or existing sources of data, and an integrated set of enterprise-ready object services. These three aspects of the architecture are complemented by an integrated set of application development and assembly tools. Component Broker is packaged with a runtime and systems management component and the Component Broker Toolkit (CBToolkit) that supports application development. This IBM Redbooks publication introduces you to IBM’s Component Broker on System/390. It describes many of the functional aspects and key benefits of the common Component Broker architecture that span multiple platforms. It also examines the specific implementation and business value of Component Broker on the 390 system. System/390, the OS/390 operating system, and the various transactional application execution environments native to the platform have enjoyed a reputation of being one of the most scalable, secure and efficient commercial processing systems in the industry. Component Broker now extends this heritage by bringing the world of object-oriented computing to large-scale business applications. Component Broker is a part of IBM’s WebSphere application server strategy. WebSphere provides customers with a comprehensive solution for developing and deploying networked applications. All WebSphere servers are unified by a common programming architecture that is based on the Enterprise JavaBeans specification. Additionally, Component Broker provides support for the CORBA specification. The ITSO has created a growing library of publications about Component Broker. You can see this library in Appendix , “ ” on page . If after reading this publication you wish to further enhance your knowledge of the general Component Broker architecture, we recommend that you study the IBM Component Broker Overview book (SG24-2022).
