Stay Online When the Grid Dies! When the power or internet fails, your workflow shouldn’t. In 13 minutes, I’ll demo a Ruby-powered importer that syncs GitHub activity to Mastodon, turning contribution graphs into animated Conway’s Game of Life SVGs published to the Fediverse. 100 % offline-capable. Join to brainstorm a blackout-resilient dev stack and maybe co-build the next piece.

This session explores the power and versatility of WebDriver, the standard API for browser automation, and its broad adoption across programming languages. We’ll dive into the WebDriver ecosystem, examining open-source frameworks built in Java, C#, Ruby, Python, and JavaScript. Attendees will gain insights into how these frameworks leverage WebDriver, the challenges of cross-language implementation, and best practices for choosing the right tool. We’ll also assess framework health using key GitHub metrics and discuss ways to contribute to the open-source automation community. Whether you’re a tester, developer, or QA engineer, this talk will help you navigate the test automation toolbox more effectively.
Abstract: In this talk, we'll explore how the Ruby and Rails community is uniquely positioned to lead the next wave of software development innovations, powered by artificial intelligence. With a focus on the expressiveness and developer-centric nature of Ruby, we'll discuss how these qualities make it an ideal candidate for integrating AI into the development process. We'll delve into the concept of Prompt-Driven Development, where developers shift from writing extensive code to defining application behavior through high-level, declarative prompts. This approach not only speeds up the development process but also enhances maintainability and scalability by leveraging AI to handle complex coding tasks dynamically at runtime.
Postel's Law states that we should be liberal in what we accept and conservative in what we send. When working with code generated from LLMs, embracing this principle is even more important. Join us as we explore the ways that Ruby's flexibility makes this possible, why I think Ruby is a sleeping giant in the future of LLM-generated code, and the key to unlocking generative AI's true power for software development.
