Cloud Native @ASML: How to scale without limits
2026-01-20 · 16:00
A new year a new meetup ! And this time we go south, for the second time we go the friendly folks at ASML. This meetup will all about "How to scale without limits". How do you bring the cloud like mindset to on prem and hybrid workloads and how do you bridge the gap between them, how can you make sure that your company has the capability to scale without limits ? You can also visit the experience center of ASML which will be open just for us! The program will go as this:
1st Talk: Title: Infrastructure Organization that scales Infrastructure Organization that scales: what paradigms (Infrastructure as Code, Platform Engineering, API first) and what mindset do you need for your infrastrucutre to scale ? What makes the AWS, Google, the hyper scaler seem to scale their infrastructure without friction whilst many companies seem to struggle on this and revert to a more human centric approach. What are the stragegies at play and what are the benefits of both and what's a way forward. Speaker: Sjuul Jannsen is a developer & team architect that is not afraid for a challenge, in face of struggle Sjuul Jannsen tries to ask why are we doing this and how can we improve the organisation ? Together with Thomas Reichel who is a Enterprise Architect they are on a mission to change how ASML thinks about infrastructure. 2nd Talk: Title: Architect for change and failure, because both are guaranteed Description: When we design modern platforms, escpecially in envorioments as complex at ASML, we cannot assume stability or permanence. New workloads appear. Teams scale. Hardware evolves. Vendors shift direction. And things break sometime at the worst possible moment. How do you design a system that copes with this from the get go ? Speaker: Laura Dragen is a cloud architect at Dell, she worked at Google before joing Dell where she was a part of their AI divsion before the AI boom. Photography/Video consent: We will be taking photos and videos during the event and will use these photos and videos for social media and promotional materials. By coming to the meet-up, you give us your consent to take photos and videos of you. Code of Conduct: All members are required to agree with the Berlin Code of Conduct. Stay in touch: Please get in touch on the CNCF #netherlands slack channel for any questions (we're also looking for co-organizers, especially in other cities). Please also don't forget to join the official CNCF community here Directions: Go to reception of building 7! EPISODE 33: The Longevity Latte – Low Caffeine, Long Life
2025-11-19 · 01:00
Can a tiny dose of caffeine help a worm live longer? In this episode, we explore how C. elegans responds to the world’s favourite stimulant. Researchers show that low-dose caffeine extends lifespan, while higher doses flip into toxicity — revealing a fine balance between metabolic stress, development, and purinergic signalling. We cover: How small amounts of caffeine boost survival in C. elegans Why high doses shorten lifespan and slow development Effects on growth, body size, and reproduction How adenosine signalling partially controls caffeine’s impact Why the DAF-2 insulin/IGF-1 pathway is required for the longevity effect What this teaches us about conserved stimulant–ageing biology It’s the worm equivalent of a perfectly measured flat white — just enough buzz to help you thrive. Based on the research article: “Lifespan Extension Induced by Caffeine in Caenorhabditis elegans is Partially Dependent on Adenosine Signaling” José C. Bridi, Arthur G.A. Barros, Laura R. Sampaio, João C.D. Ferreira, Fabiano A. Antunes Soares & Marcos A. Romano-Silva. Paginated Reports have had some Love Paginated reports are great for those pixel perfect pages we still need and those Excel exports that businesses desire. And the engineers at Microsoft have been giving Paginated reports some love. Early 2024 we got Power Query, over the past year we've seen online creation from datasets improving and now we have the dynamic per recipient subscriptions. In this session, using business cases we will walk through how paginated reports are still a vital part of the reporting landscape. We will discuss what licenses we need to do the magic. I promise lots of demos and laughter. Laura Graham Brown: Low-Code Advocate and Passionate Trainer and Consultant Data Platform and Business Applications Microsoft MVP Business solutions should solve business problems and the business should own the problem and the solution. I've spent my whole career empowering businesses to do that. |
