Title & Speakers Event
Steve Wade – CNCF Migration Specialist | Fixing Failed Kubernetes Transformations

You're brilliant at debugging code. But can you debug a conversation?

Research shows 78% of engineers believe others perceive less than 70% of their technical brilliance. That perception gap costs you £50,000 per year in salary, kills your best architectural decisions, and keeps your platforms unnecessarily complex.

In this highly interactive talk, Steve Wade (The Pragmatic CNCF Guy) reveals how the same systematic thinking that makes you a great engineer can transform you into an exceptional communicator. No fluffy soft skills—just proven techniques that work.

You'll learn: - The "killer question" that transforms any professional interaction - Three gestures that instantly boost your executive presence - How to explain complex architecture in ways that get stakeholders leaning in, not zoning out - Why your monotone delivery is sabotaging your brilliant ideas (and how to fix it)

Through live demonstrations, partner exercises, and real-world case studies, you'll practice techniques that helped one engineer get her previously-rejected platform rebuild approved and promoted to VP within six months.

Perfect for engineers who are tired of watching less-technical colleagues get promoted faster, and leaders who want their teams' technical brilliance to finally get the recognition it deserves.

Come ready to participate. Leave ready to be unstoppable.

Amanda Lee – International Director of Client Success @ Veracode

Strategies for Building Resilient Software in a Complex Ecosystem In an era where software development is accelerating rapidly, Veracode's latest research reveals a concerning trend: 50% of organisations are burdened by critical security debt, with 70% of these vulnerabilities originating from third-party code and the software supply chain. The average time to fix security flaws has increased to 8.5 months, marking a 47% rise over the past five years. This session will delve into the key findings of the State of Software Security report, offering a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape. Amanda will explore the five critical metrics identified by Veracode that benchmark security maturity and what defines a ‘leading’ or ‘lagging’ organisations. Attendees will gain insights into: - The impact of third-party code on security debt and strategies to mitigate associated risks. - The importance of remediation speed, with fast-acting teams reducing critical security debt by up to 75%. - The role of AI in enhancing remediation efforts and addressing the backlog of security debt. - Practical recommendations for improving security posture, including enhancing visibility across the software development lifecycle and prioritising vulnerabilities effectively.

#1 Derik Evangelista - Principal Software Engineer @ Syntasso

Derik is a former Engineering Manager at both Grafana Labs and VMware, who is an experienced Software Engineer who has been building platforms for over 15 years.

Title: Building compelling Platforms on Kubernetes

Kubernetes is everywhere. Many organisations are leveraging it to deliver their internal platforms. However, too often the teams using these platforms find themselves dragged down into wrangling commodity infrastructure components instead of focusing on building the differentiated products that drive the revenue. This is the "Platform Gap". In this talk, Derik will show how proper platform engineering can help organizations to cross that gap and build compelling platforms on top of Kubernetes, allowing for application developers to stay focused on delivering value to their customers.

#2 - Steve Wade - Cloud Native Consultant and Trainer

Steve Wade was one of the founding engineers at KSOC, a Kubernetes security startup. Before this, Steve held Platform leadership roles at UnderWrite Me and Mettle. During these roles, he leveraged the concept of GitOps to provide self-service platforms to developers. He has also provided Kubernetes consultancy and training worldwide as a Consultant at Apprenda. Steve has held leadership roles in many verticals, including real estate, gaming, and the UK parliament. Steve has a BSc in Computer Science and is passionate about cloud-native software development and distributed computing.

Title: The Unanswerable Question

When Steve arrived at a financial services client site he was asked a question by senior management which he and his team could not answer. This talk will explain how GitOps has enabled them to be able to answer it. Steve will talk about the lessons learnt along the way, the tooling (in particular Kubernetes), and processes he has helped put in place and what is left to do to complete the journey.

Join us to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Kubernetes!
