Web Mapping Illustrated

With the help of the Internet and accompanying tools, creating and publishing online maps has become easier and rich with options. A city guide web site can use maps to show the location of restaurants, museums, and art venues. A business can post a map for reaching its offices. The state government can present a map showing average income by area.Developers who want to publish maps on the web often discover that commercial tools cost too much and hunting down the free tools scattered across Internet can use up too much of your time and resources. Web Mapping Illustrated shows you how to create maps, even interactive maps, with free tools, including MapServer, OpenEV, GDAL/OGR, and PostGIS. It also explains how to find, collect, understand, use, and share mapping data, both over the traditional Web and using OGC-standard services like WFS and WMS.Mapping is a growing field that goes beyond collecting and analyzing GIS data. Web Mapping Illustrated shows how to combine free geographic data, GPS, and data management tools into one resource for your mapping information needs so you don't have to lose your way while searching for it.Remember the fun you had exploring the world with maps? Mapping Hacks

Since the dawn of creation, man has designed maps to help identify the space that we occupy. From Lewis and Clark's pencil-sketched maps of mountain trails to Jacques Cousteau's sophisticated charts of the ocean floor, creating maps of the utmost precision has been a constant pursuit. So why should things change now? Well, they shouldn't. The reality is that map creation, or "cartography," has only improved in its ease-of-use over time. In fact, with the recent explosion of inexpensive computing and the growing availability of public mapping data, mapmaking today extends all the way to the ordinary PC user. Mapping Hacks, the latest page-turner from O'Reilly Press, tackles this notion head on. It's a collection of one hundred simple--and mostly free--techniques available to developers and power users who want draw digital maps or otherwise visualize geographic data. Authors Schuyler Erle, Rich Gibson, and Jo Walsh do more than just illuminate the basic concepts of location and cartography, they walk you through the process one step at a time. Mapping Hacks shows you where to find the best sources of geographic data, and then how to integrate that data into your own map. But that's just an appetizer. This comprehensive resource also shows you how to interpret and manipulate unwieldy cartography data, as well as how to incorporate personal photo galleries into your maps. It even provides practical uses for GPS (Global Positioning System) devices--those touch-of-a-button street maps integrated into cars and mobile phones. Just imagine: If Captain Kidd had this technology, we'd all know where to find his buried treasure! With all of these industrial-strength tips and tools, Mapping Hacks effectively takes the sting out of the digital mapmaking and navigational process. Now you can create your own maps for business, pleasure, or entertainment--without ever having to sharpen a single pencil.

Problem Determination Using Self-Managing Autonomic Technology

This IBM Redbooks publication provides practical information related to problem determination using IBM Self-Managing Autonomic Technology, with an emphasis on the components provided by the IBM Autonomic Computing Toolkit. Implementing IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler V 8.2 Extended Agent for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler is a strategic, multiplatform distributed scheduling product that provides high-volume, complex scheduling capability. Although Tivoli Workload Scheduler provides native support for many platforms and applications, its robust scheduling capabilities can be extended to cover additional platforms and applications by writing an extended agent. This IBM Redbooks publication shows how to write a Tivoli Workload Scheduler Version 8.2 extended agent to schedule jobs on IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. With the extended agent, you can schedule on platforms and applications for which Tivoli Workload Scheduler has no native agent, as well as integrate IBM Tivoli Storage Manager with Tivoli Workload Scheduler. The Tivoli Workload Scheduler scheduling facility enables you to assign dependencies among tasks scheduled through Tivoli Storage Manager or to assign limits or priorities. By extending Tivoli Storage Manager to schedule these Tivoli Storage Manager tasks, you can take advantage of its advanced scheduling capabilities. This book will be essential for those who write a Tivoli Workload Scheduler extended agent for any platform in general, or use the extended agent provided in this book (TSM Extended Agent) to schedule Tivoli Storage Manager tasks. IBM Express Runtime V2.1

Mid-market companies are looking for complete solutions from the solution providers who know their businesses and specialize in a particular solution category such as warehouse management or supply chain integration, within their industry. In order to provide an environment for the business solution, either the solution provider or the end customer must obtain the software needed to run the provider’s application program. This software normally consists of a database, a Web server, and an application server. These components, which are not actually part of the business solution, but are required to support the application program, are called middleware. The process of obtaining, installing, configuring, and supporting the middleware components is a complex process for the solution provider, who currently has to absorb the cost of setting up the environment. The provider has to work with multiple suppliers who have multiple terms and conditions, different license structures, and multiple departments to work with on the contracts and support structures, all of which leads to added infrastructure costs and inefficiency. IBM designed the Express Runtime offering to address the needs of the solution providers serving mid-market customers. The main design criteria were reducing complexity for the providers by offering a pre-integrated and pre-configured middleware solution with a single contract, one license, one set of contracts, and a very competitive price. With Express Runtime, you get WebSphere Application Server - Express, DB2 UDB Express, and IBM HTTP Server with a single install, one contract, and a significantly lower cost compared to purchasing the individual components. Express Runtime includes quick start samples and documentation to get you up and running quickly and easily. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

File System Forensic Analysis

The Definitive Guide to File System Analysis: Key Concepts and Hands-on Techniques Most digital evidence is stored within the computer's file system, but understanding how file systems work is one of the most technically challenging concepts for a digital investigator because there exists little documentation. Now, security expert Brian Carrier has written the definitive reference for everyone who wants to understand and be able to testify about how file system analysis is performed. Carrier begins with an overview of investigation and computer foundations and then gives an authoritative, comprehensive, and illustrated overview of contemporary volume and file systems: Crucial information for discovering hidden evidence, recovering deleted data, and validating your tools. Along the way, he describes data structures, analyzes example disk images, provides advanced investigation scenarios, and uses today's most valuable open source file system analysis tools—including tools he personally developed. Coverage includes Preserving the digital crime scene and duplicating hard disks for "dead analysis" Identifying hidden data on a disk's Host Protected Area (HPA) Reading source data: Direct versus BIOS access, dead versus live acquisition, error handling, and more Analyzing DOS, Apple, and GPT partitions; BSD disk labels; and Sun Volume Table of Contents using key concepts, data structures, and specific techniques Analyzing the contents of multiple disk volumes, such as RAID and disk spanning Analyzing FAT, NTFS, Ext2, Ext3, UFS1, and UFS2 file systems using key concepts, data structures, and specific techniques Finding evidence: File metadata, recovery of deleted files, data hiding locations, and more Using The Sleuth Kit (TSK), Autopsy Forensic Browser, and related open source tools When it comes to file system analysis, no other book offers this much detail or expertise. Whether you're a digital forensics specialist, incident response team member, law enforcement officer, corporate security specialist, or auditor, this book will become an indispensable resource for forensic investigations, no matter what analysis tools you use.
