Scaling Blockchain ML With Databricks: From Graph Analytics to Graph Machine Learning

Coinbase leverages Databricks to scale ML on blockchain data, turning vast transaction networks into actionable insights. This session explores how Databricks’ scalable infrastructure, powered by Delta Lake, enables real-time processing for ML applications like NFT floor price predictions. We’ll show how GraphFrames helps us analyze billion-node transaction graphs (e.g., Bitcoin) for clustering and fraud detection, uncovering structural patterns in blockchain data. But traditional graph analytics has limits. We’ll go further with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) using Kumo AI, which learn from the transaction network itself rather than relying on hand-engineered features. By encoding relationships directly into the model, GNNs adapt to new fraud tactics, capturing subtle relationships that evolve over time. Join us to see how Coinbase is advancing blockchain ML with Databricks and deep learning on graphs.

This special episode of DataFramed was made in collaboration with Analytics on Fire! Nowadays, the hype around generative AI is only the tip of the iceberg. There are so many ideas being touted as the next big thing that it’s difficult to keep up. More importantly, it’s challenging to discern which ideas will become the next ChatGPT and which will end up like the next NFT. How do we cut through the noise? Mico Yuk is the Community Manager at Acryl Data and Co-Founder at Data Storytelling Academy. Mico is also an SAP Mentor Alumni, and the Founder of the popular weblog, Everything Xcelsius and the 'Xcelsius Gurus’ Network. She was named one of the Top 50 Analytics Bloggers to follow, as-well-as a high-regarded BI influencer and sought after global keynote speaker in the Analytics ecosystem.  In the episode, Richie and Mico explore AI and productivity at work, the future of work and AI, GenAI and data roles, AI for training and learning, training at scale, decision intelligence, soft skills for data professionals, genAI hype and much more.  Links Mentioned in the Show: Analytics on Fire PodcastData Visualization for Dummies by Mico Yuk and Stephanie DiamondConnect with Miko[Skill Track] AI FundamentalsRelated Episode: What to Expect from AI in 2024 with Craig S. The Web3 world—blockchain, cryptocurrency, NFTs, and more—seems to be everywhere these days. And, as analysts, how could we not salivate at the idea of a data set that is just one flat, immutable, ever-growing table with a handful of columns (aka… a blockchain-powered public ledger)? We sat down with Anthony Mandelli from Coin Metrics to see whether Tim and Moe could be moved from "totally clueless" to "barely knowledgeable" on the topic in a single hour (Michael was already a knowledgeable enthusiast). The jury is out as to whether we were successful, but stay tuned for the upcoming announcement of the Analytics Power Hour DAO we're starting up (we're minting RockFlag coins to make it happen). Blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies and decentralised finance are described by some as massively disruptive technologies that will turn our existing financial system on its head. For the traditional financial services industry, these technologies have the potential to create huge efficiency gains and democratise more complex financial services for individual users. On the other hand, DeFi also reduces – and potentially removes – the need for trusted intermediaries, which makes the model unsettling to some operators in the current financial system. DeFi also opens the opportunity for global financial inclusion of enterprises and private individuals in developing markets – a very large group whose needs are typically unmet by traditional finance. With all this huge potential about to be released, we better learn why these technologies are so revolutionary and what will they do for us now and in the future. To answer these questions and many more relating to DeFi, I recently spoke to Daniel Liebau. Dan is the Chief Investment Officer, Blockchain Strategy at Modular Asset Management and the Founding Chairman of Lightbulb Capital, a DeFi investment and consulting firm. In this episode of Leaders of Analytics, Dan and I discuss: Why is DeFi so revolutionary and the opportunities and risks that lie within this space for individual users, corporations and nation statesThe difference between Payment, Utility and Security tokens and how these are likely to be used in our future financial systemThe utility of NFTs and their future as an asset categoryHow blockchains, cryptocurrencies and DeFi will be part of our lives in 5, 10 and 20 years respectivelyWhat Dan is teaching his FinTech, crypto and DeFi students, and much more.  Daniel Liebau on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/liebauda/ Lightbulb Capital: https://www.lightbulbcap.com/

Our guest today is Marc Brown, Founder of Byta, a music sharing app that lets artists, studios, and managers share, collaborate on, and promote secure music files before uploading them to streaming services. Marc is currently based in Stockholm, Sweden, though he is originally from Canada and spent many years in London working in A&R and artist promotion. On this episode, we discuss how he came to found Byta, what sets the app apart from DropBox and Soundcloud, and what this might mean for the future of Hi-Fi audio and NFTs. Check out Byta here.
