Dan's BIO: Dan has almost 30 years of experience working with large data sets. Starting with the unusual work of analyzing potential jury pools in the 1980s, Dan also did some of the first PC based voter registration analytics in the Chicago area, including putting the first complete list of registered voters on a PC (as hard as that is to imagine today a 50-megabyte hard drive on DOS systems was staggering). Interested in almost anything new and technical, he worked at The Chicago Board of Trade. He taught himself BASIC to write algorithms while working as an Arbitrager in financial futures. After the military, Dan moved to San Francisco. He worked with several small companies and startups designing and implementing some of the first PC-based fax systems (who cares now!), enterprise accounting software, and early middleware connections using the early 3GL/4GL languages. Always perusing the technical edge cases, Dan worked for InfoBright, a Column store Database startup in the US and EMEA, at Lingotek, an In-Q-Tel funded company working in large data set translations and big data analytics companies like Datameer and his current position as a Chief Data Scientist for Open Source in the IBM Channels organization. Dan's current just for fun Project is working to create an app that will record and analyze bird songs and provide the user with information on the bird and the specifics of the current song.

Bill's BIO: Bill Franks is Chief Analytics Officer for The International Institute For Analytics (IIA), where he provides perspective on trends in the analytics and big data space and helps clients understand how IIA can support their efforts to improve analytic performance. He also serves on the advisory boards of multiple university and professional analytic programs. He has held a range of executive positions in the analytics space in the past, including several years as Chief Analytics Officer for Teradata (NYSE: TDC).

Bill is the author of the book Taming The Big Data Tidal Wave (John Wiley & Sons). In the book, he applies his two decades of experience working with clients on large-scale analytics initiatives to outline what it takes to succeed in today’s world of big data and analytics. The book made Tom Peter’s list of 2014 “Must Read” books and also the Top 10 Most Influential Translated Technology Books list from CSDN in China.

His focus has always been to help translate complex analytics into terms that business users can understand and to then help an organization implement the results effectively within their processes. His work has spanned clients in a variety of industries for companies ranging in size from Fortune 100 companies to small non-profit organizations.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Statistics from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics from North Carolina State University.

He directed customer analytics, market research, and information and data management functions, and supported the company’s marketing strategy. Ballew joined Nationwide in November 2007 and established the company’s Customer Insights and Analytics capabilities.

Bio- Nathaniel Lin has an extensive background in business and marketing analytics with strategic roles in both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies. He offers the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) agency and client perspective gleaned from his work at Fidelity Investments, OgilvyOne, Aspen Marketing, and IBM Worldwide. During his tenure with IBM Asia Pacific, he also built and led a marketing analytics group that won a DMA/NCDM Gold Award in B2B Marketing.

Lin served as an adjunct professor of business analytics at Boston College and Georgia Tech College of Management. He is also the founder of two LinkedIn groups related to big data analytics and is the 2014 author of Applied Business Analytics – Integrating Business Process, Big Data, and Advanced Analytics. Lin has an MBA in Management of Technology/Sloan Fellows from MIT Sloan School of Management and earned both a Ph.D. In Environmental Engineering and an Honors B.S from Birmingham University in England.

Here's Scott Zoldi's Bio: Scott Zoldi is Chief Analytics Officer at FICO, responsible for the analytic development of FICO’s product and technology solutions, including the FICO™ Falcon® Fraud Manager product, which protects about two-thirds of the world’s payment card transactions from fraud. While at FICO, Scott has been responsible for authoring 72 analytic patents, 36 patents granted, and 36 in process. Scott is actively involved in developing new analytic products and Big Data analytics applications, many of which leverage new streaming artificial intelligence innovations such as adaptive analytics, collaborative profiling, and self-learning models. Scott is most recently focused on the applications of streaming self-learning analytics for real-time detection of Cyber Security attacks and Money Laundering. Scott serves on two boards of directors, including Software San Diego and Cyber Center of Excellence. Scott received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Duke University.

Here's Mike Flowers Bio: Mike is Chief Analytics Officer at New York City tech start-up Enigma, an operational data management and intelligence company, where he leads data scientists assisting the development and deployment of decision-support technologies to Fortune 500 clients in compliance, manufacturing, banking, and finance, and several U.S. and foreign government agencies. In addition, he is a Senior Fellow at Bloomberg Philanthropies, working with select U.S. city governments to launch sustainable analytics programs. Mike is also an advisor to numerous organizations in a wide variety of fields, including, for example, Weil Cornell Medical College, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Office of the New York State Comptroller, the Greater London Authority, the government of New South Wales, Australia, and the French national government.

From 2014-15, Mike was an Executive-in-Residence and the first MacArthur Urban Science Fellow at NYU’s Center for Urban Science and Progress, where he advised students and faculty on projects to advance data-driven decision-making in city government.

From 2009-2013, Mike served under Mayor Michael Bloomberg as New York City’s first Chief Analytics Officer. During his tenure, he founded the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics, which provides quantitative support to the city’s public safety, public health, infrastructure development, finance, economic development, disaster preparedness and response, legislative, sustainability, and human services efforts. In addition, Mike designed and oversaw the implementation of NYC DataBridge, a first-of-its-kind citywide analytics platform that enables the sharing and analysis of city data across agencies and with the public, and he ran the implementation of the city’s internationally-recognized Open Data initiative. For this work, Mike was twice recognized by the White House for innovation.
