Dr. Stonebraker's BIO: Dr. Stonebraker has been a pioneer of database research and technology for more than forty years. He was the main architect of the INGRES relational DBMS, and the object-relational DBMS, POSTGRES. These prototypes were developed at the University of California at Berkeley where Stonebraker was a Professor of Computer Science for twenty-five years. More recently at M.I.T., he was a co-architect of the Aurora/Borealis stream processing engine, the C-Store column-oriented DBMS, the H-Store transaction processing engine, which became VoltDB, the SciDB array DBMS, and the Data Tamer data curation system. Presently he serves as an advisor to VoltDB and Chief Technology Officer of Paradigm4 and Tamr, Inc.

Professor Stonebraker was awarded the ACM System Software Award in 1992 for his work on INGRES. Additionally, he was awarded the first annual SIGMOD Innovation award in 1994 and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1997. He was awarded the IEEE John Von Neumann award in 2005 and the 2014 Turing Award and is presently an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at M.I.T, where he is co-director of the Intel Science and Technology Center focused on big data.

Besa's BIO: Dr. Besa Bauta is the Chief Data Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for MercyFirst, a social service organization providing health and mental health services to children and adolescents in New York City. She oversees the Research, Evaluation, Analytics, and Compliance for Health (REACH) division, including data governance and security measures, analytics, risk mitigation, and policy initiatives. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU and previously worked as a Research Director for a USAID project in Afghanistan and as the Senior Director of Research and Evaluation at the Center for Evidence-Based Implementation and Research (CEBIR). She holds a Ph.D. in implementation science with a focus on health services, an MPH in Global Health, and an MSW. Her research has focused on health systems, mental health, and technology integration to improve population-level outcomes.

Harsh's BIO: Harsh Tiwari is the Senior Vice President and Chief Data Officer for CUNA Mutual Group in Madison, Wisconsin. His primary responsibilities include leading enterprise-wide data initiatives providing strategy and policy guidance for data acquisition, usage, and management. He joined the company in July 2015. Before joining CUNA Mutual Group, Harsh spent many years working in information technology, analytics, and data intelligence. He worked at Capital One Financial Group in Plano, Texas, for 17 years, where he most recently focused on creating an effective data and business intelligence environment to manage risks across the company as the Head of Risk Management Data and Business Intelligence. He has also served as the Divisional CIO for Small Business Credit Card and Consumer Lending, Head of Portfolio and Delivery Management, Head of Auto Finance Data and Business Intelligence, Business Information Officer of Capital One Canada, and Analyst –Senior Manager of Small Business Data & System Analysis.

A native of India, Harsh earned a B.S. in Mechanical engineering from Mysore University in Mysore, Karnataka, India, and an M.B.A. in Finance / MIS Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Paul's BIO: Paul Ballew is vice president and Global Chief Data and Analytics officer, Ford Motor Company, effective June 1, 2017. At the same time, he also was elected a Ford Motor Company officer. In this role, he leads Ford’s global data and analytics teams for the enterprise. Previously, Ballew was Global Chief Data and Analytics Officer, a position to which he was named in December 2014. In this role, he has been responsible for establishing and growing the company’s industry-leading data and analytics operations that are driving significant business value throughout the enterprise. Prior to joining Ford, he was Chief Data, Insight & Analytics Officer at Dun & Bradstreet. In this capacity, he was responsible for the company’s global data and analytic activities along with the company’s strategic consulting practice. Previously, Ballew served as Nationwide’s senior vice president for Customer Insight and Analytics. He directed customer analytics, market research, and information and data management functions, and supported the company’s marketing strategy. His responsibilities included the development of Nationwide’s customer analytics, data operations, and strategy. Ballew joined Nationwide in November 2007 and established the company’s Customer Insights and Analytics capabilities.

Ballew sits on the boards of Neustar, Inc. and Hyatt Hotels Corporation. He was born in 1964 and has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Economics from the University of Detroit.

Here's Mike Flowers Bio: Mike is Chief Analytics Officer at New York City tech start-up Enigma, an operational data management and intelligence company, where he leads data scientists assisting the development and deployment of decision-support technologies to Fortune 500 clients in compliance, manufacturing, banking, and finance, and several U.S. and foreign government agencies. In addition, he is a Senior Fellow at Bloomberg Philanthropies, working with select U.S. city governments to launch sustainable analytics programs. Mike is also an advisor to numerous organizations in a wide variety of fields, including, for example, Weil Cornell Medical College, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Office of the New York State Comptroller, the Greater London Authority, the government of New South Wales, Australia, and the French national government.

From 2014-15, Mike was an Executive-in-Residence and the first MacArthur Urban Science Fellow at NYU’s Center for Urban Science and Progress, where he advised students and faculty on projects to advance data-driven decision-making in city government.

From 2009-2013, Mike served under Mayor Michael Bloomberg as New York City’s first Chief Analytics Officer. During his tenure, he founded the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics, which provides quantitative support to the city’s public safety, public health, infrastructure development, finance, economic development, disaster preparedness and response, legislative, sustainability, and human services efforts. In addition, Mike designed and oversaw the implementation of NYC DataBridge, a first-of-its-kind citywide analytics platform that enables the sharing and analysis of city data across agencies and with the public, and he ran the implementation of the city’s internationally-recognized Open Data initiative. For this work, Mike was twice recognized by the White House for innovation.

Here's John's Bio: Mr. Young has general management responsibilities for the 150+ member Analytic Consulting Group at Epsilon. His responsibilities also include design and consultation on various database marketing analytic engagements, including predictive modeling, segmentation, measurement, and profiling. John also brings thought leadership on important marketing topics. John works with companies in numerous industries, including financial services, technology, retail, healthcare, and not-for-profit.
