Graph in Microsoft Fabric - an Introduction
2025-12-18 · 18:00
Join our Microsoft Fabric - UK User Group for our latest webinar. This session we are excited to announce our host Microsoft MVP Leon Gordon and co-host Microsoft MVP Pragati Jain will be introducing Microsoft MVP Thomas Martens. Join the Microsoft Fabric UK - User Group on - Microsoft Community - https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Power-BI-UK-User-Group/gh-p/pbi_UK_usergroup LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/groups/8909321/ MeetUp - https://www.meetup.com/microsoft-power-bi-uk/ Session Abstract - In this session, I'll provide a comprehensive introduction to Microsoft's latest analytical superpower—Microsoft Graph. We'll start by exploring the fundamental ingredients of graph databases: nodes (your data entities) and edges (the relationships that connect them). I'll demonstrate how to combine these elements and add various "flavors" using GQL (Graph Query Language)—the newly standardized ISO query language that's making graph operations more consistent and portable across platforms. Spoiler alert: it's way more intuitive than wrestling with complex SQL joins that look like they were designed by someone who really, really loved parentheses. To bring everything together, I'll showcase hands-on demos that illuminate the practical differences between these database approaches and demonstrate the impressive analytical capabilities of Microsoft Fabric Graph. You'll see real-world scenarios where graph analytics reveals insights that would be practically impossible (or at least incredibly painful) to extract from traditional tabular data. This session is designed for both developers and architects, offering a dual perspective that balances the technical nitty-gritty with strategic architectural considerations. You'll gain practical insights into working with GQL tooling while also understanding the business challenges Microsoft Fabric Graph will solve. Whether you're considering adding graph capabilities to your data platform or just curious about what all the graph hype is about, this session will equip you with the knowledge to make informed decisions and maybe even impress your colleagues at the next team meeting. Biography Thomas "Tom" Martens has been awarded an MSFT Data Platform MVP and works as a Solution Architect at Munich Re (www.munichre.com). For 25+ years, Tom has delivered Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, and Analytics solutions. He applies analytical methods to small and large amounts of data and then provides users with the Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Platform to tackle analytical challenges. Navigating the journey from Excel to Fabric (and back again!) | Rishi Sapra
2025-11-18 · 18:00
Navigating the journey from Excel to Fabric (and back again!)For decades, the entire business world has been built on the flexibility and power of spreadsheets. From rocket science to credit derivatives, a mind that could imagine it could implement it with nothing more than Excel formulas and cell references. But over time this has resulted in siloed, manual processes in “Shadow IT” where some of the most valuable data and logic in an organisation is locked away in these files. But it doesn’t need to be like that! The promise of Microsoft Fabric is to bring all your organisational data into a single place, in a single format where it can be extracted, shaped, enriched and secured once for use in any tool. So, from an organizational perspective, there are many benefits of such a unified data platform. However, it’s not obvious how you would take an Excel-based process (or financial model) and bring it into a Power BI and Fabric environment. Perhaps it’s overkill to even consider such a move, and it’s potentially a significant business risk if those analysts used to working in Excel haven’t yet developed the different skillsets required for Fabric. In this session we will take a financial credit risk model in Excel and go through the thought process and workflow for bringing this into Power BI/Fabric including:
Attendees will come away with a view of how to drive “on the ground” business process transformation using Microsoft Fabric and ideas on how analysts used to Excel can think differently about the structure and re-usability of data, in order to take advantage of an enterprise level BI/Data platform. |

Fabric Real-Time Intelligence und Lessons Learned beim Deployment in Fabric
2025-09-25 · 16:00
Was Sie in dieser Demo erwartet:
