Meet Goose, an Open Source AI Agent

goose is an open source AI agent framework that allows anyone to connect language model output to real world action. Released in January by Block (the company made up of Square, Cash App, Afterpay, and TIDAL), its use cases range from vibe coding to connecting all of the internal apps and services an enterprise uses. It can be powered by any language model that has tool calling capabilities.goose's modular design allows it to connect with any system through simple extensions. Built on the open Model Context Protocol (developed with Anthropic), goose transforms natural language into actions across various tools and services. Whether integrating with platforms like Jira and GitHub, or executing system commands and scripts, its plug-and-play architecture means anyone can extend Goose's capabilities to suit their needs. Finally, goose has both a command line interface and desktop app — it isn't limited to an IDE to start connecting to MCP servers and building powerful agentic workflows.

Enabling Sleep Science Research With Databricks and Delta Sharing

Leveraging Databricks as a platform, we facilitate the sharing of anonymized datasets across various Databricks workspaces and accounts, spanning multiple cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. This capability, powered by Delta Sharing, extends both within and outside Sleep Number, enabling accelerated insights while ensuring compliance with data security and privacy standards. In this session, we will showcase our architecture and implementation strategy for data sharing, highlighting the use of Databricks’ Unity Catalog and Delta Sharing, along with integration with platforms like Jira, Jenkins, and Terraform to streamline project management and system orchestration.

Deep Dive into the New Features of Apache Spark™ 3.4

Join us for this Technical Deep Dive session. In 2022, Apache Spark™ was awarded the prestigious SIGMOD Systems Award, because Spark is the de facto standard for data processing.

In this session, we will share the latest progress in Apache Spark community. With tremendous contribution from the open source community, Spark 3.4 managed to resolve in excess of 2,400 Jira tickets. We will talk about the major features and improvements in Spark 3.4. The major updates are Spark Connect, numerous PySpark and SQL language features, engine performance enhancements, as well as operational improvements in Spark UX and error handling.

Data teams: kill your service desk

I have spoken with many data people about their most hated tool: the “service desk” used to manage the requests of others.

One team has a Slack channel called “data-sucks.” The name tells you much about people’s feelings. Others use Google forms, JIRA Service Desk, or some horrifying combination.

Teams debate the ways that they can prevent, or reduce, these requests in the first place. Should we make requests more difficult? Are we stuck in the service trap? Should we enable self-service analytics?

Initiatives are undertaken, and afterwards is a terrible truth: the questions and our loathing remain. And the others? They still hate making the requests, too.

Why do we all feel this way, and why are we still unable to do anything about it?

Automating CI/CD in dbt Cloud: Sunrun's story

Does a two-step deployment workflow for developing, testing, and deploying code to dbt Cloud sound possible? Sunrun thinks so. Join James Sorensen and Jared Stout to learn how they used Github Actions and API integrations with dbt Cloud and Jira to entirely automate the CI/CD workflow, saving the team time and worry when moving through SOX certification.
