IBM zEnterprise® is recognized as the most reliable and trusted system, and the most secure environment for core business operations. The new zEnterprise System consists of the IBM zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12) or IBM zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12), the IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager, and the IBM zEnterprise IBM BladeCenter® Extension (zBX) Model 003. This IBM Redbooks® publication describes the zEC12 and zBC12, with their improved scalability, performance, security, resiliency, availability, and virtualization. The zEnterprise System has no peer as a trusted platform that also provides the most efficient transaction processing and database management. With efficiency at scale delivering significant cost savings on core processes, resources can be freed up to focus on developing new services to drive growth. This book provides a technical overview of the zEC12, zBC12, zBX Model 003, and Unified Resource Manager. This publication is intended for IT managers, architects, consultants, and anyone else who wants to understand the elements of the zEnterprise System. Responsive Mobile User Experience Using MQTT and IBM MessageSight

IBM® MessageSight is an appliance-based messaging server that is optimized to address the massive scale requirements of machine-to-machine (m2m) and mobile user scenarios. IBM MessageSight makes it easy to connect mobile customers to your existing messaging enterprise system, enabling a substantial number of remote clients to be concurrently connected. The MQTT protocol is a lightweight messaging protocol that uses publish/subscribe architecture to deliver messages over low bandwidth or unreliable networks. A publish/subscribe architecture works well for HTML5, native, and hybrid mobile applications by removing the wait time of a request/response model. This creates a better, richer user experience. The MQTT protocol is simple, which results in a client library with a low footprint. MQTT was proposed as an Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) standard. This book provides information about version 3.1 of the MQTT specification. This IBM Redbooks® publication provides information about how IBM MessageSight, in combination with MQTT, facilitates the expansion of enterprise systems to include mobile devices and m2m communications. This book also outlines how to connect IBM MessageSight to an existing infrastructure, either through the use of IBM WebSphere® MQ connectivity or the IBM Integration Bus (formerly known as WebSphere Message Broker). This book describes IBM MessageSight product features and facilities that are relevant to technical personnel, such as system architects, to help them make informed design decisions regarding the integration of the messaging appliance into their enterprise architecture. Using a scenario-based approach, you learn how to develop a mobile application, and how to integrate IBM MessageSight with other IBM products. This publication is intended to be of use to a wide-ranging audience.

IBM DB2 Web Query for i Version 2.1 Implementation Guide

Business Intelligence (BI) is a broad term relating to applications designed to analyze data for purposes of understanding and acting on the key metrics that drive profitability in an enterprise. Key to analyzing that data is providing fast, easy access to it while delivering it in formats or tools that best fit the needs of the end user. At the core of any business intelligence solution are end user query and reporting tools that provide intuitive access to data supporting a spectrum of end users from executives to "power users," from spreadsheet aficionados to the external Internet consumer. IBM® DB2 Web Query for i offers a set of modernized tools for a more robust, extensible, and productive reporting solution than the popular Query for System i tool (also known as Query/400). IBM DB2 Web Query for i preserves investments in the reports developed with Query/400 by offering a choice of importing definitions into the new technology or continuing to run existing Query/400 reports as-is. But it also offers significant productivity and performance enhancements by leveraging the latest in DB2 for i query optimization technology. This IBM Redbooks® publication provides a broad understanding of the new DB2 Web Query product. It entails a group of self-explanatory tutorials to help you get up to speed quickly. Overall, this book is designed for IT users. You can use Part 2, "Tutorials for DB2 Web Query" on page 161, as stand-alone tutorials for anyone who is developing their own queries.

IBM XIV Storage System Architecture and Implementation

This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the concepts, architecture, and implementation of the IBM XIV® Storage System. The XIV Storage System is a scalable enterprise storage system that is based on a grid array of hardware components. It can attach to both Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP) and IP network Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) capable hosts. This system is a good fit for clients who want to be able to grow capacity without managing multiple tiers of storage. The XIV Storage System is suited for mixed or random access workloads, including online transaction processing, video streamings, images, email, and emerging workload areas, such as Web 2.0 and storage cloud. The focus of this edition is on the XIV Gen3 hardware Release 3.4, running Version 11.4 of the XIV system software. With this version, XIV Storage System offers 4 TB drives, and enhanced caching with optional 800 GB flash cache devices (solid-state drives (SSDs)) per module. IBM XIV software Version 11.4, XIV Gen3 supports encryption for all capacity points. This version also scales XIV snapshot management out with the new Hyper-Scale Consistency, by coordinating concurrent snapshots of volumes that are spread across multiple XIV systems and belong to one application. In the first few chapters of this book, we describe many of the unique and powerful concepts that form the basis of the XIV Storage System logical and physical architecture. We explain how the system is designed to eliminate direct dependencies between the hardware elements and the software that governs the system. In subsequent chapters, we explain the planning and preparation tasks that are required to deploy the system in your environment by using the intuitive, yet powerful XIV Storage Manager GUI or the XIV command-line interface (XCLI). We describe the performance characteristics of the XIV Storage System and present options that are available for alerting and monitoring, including an enhanced secure remote support capability. This book is intended for IT professionals who want an understanding of the XIV Storage System. It also targets readers who need detailed advice on how to configure and use the system.
