Dr. Mark Austin currently leads a large team of data scientists, developers, and automation specialists within AT&T’s Chief Data & AI Office, applying Gen AI, data science, and ML across Fraud, Network and Field Operations, Consumer Services, Security, Supply Chain, and corporate functions. His teams have launched GenAI platforms across AT&T, including the Ask AT&T GenAI platform that serves over 100,000 employees and contractors, processes billions of tokens daily, and supports hundreds of production use cases, plus an automation center of excellence that manages over 3,000 bots company-wide. With 30 years of experience, he has held diverse leadership roles and has contributed to technology planning across multiple regions, chaired industry standards committees, and authored five books, published 20+ peer-reviewed papers, and holds over 130 patents. He is based in Plano, Texas, and his technical leadership is complemented by notable research honors such as the Sigma Xi Thesis Award for his cellular systems work at Georgia Tech. His early work includes solutions for large-scale routing problems, closed-loop AI classification, recommendation engines, and computer vision improvements that enhanced productivity and automation across the organization.
