Default service accounts in Google Cloud have been an area of interest for threat actors. Cloud administrators can sometimes grant unintentionally broad permissions through this mechanism to their workloads, such as virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters. In this talk, we will discuss the role of default service accounts in Google Cloud Compute Engine (GCE) and Google Cloud Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and best practices for managing and securing them.

Ten years ago, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) was born! Since then, it has become the industry-leading managed Kubernetes platform, powering mission-critical workloads across all industries. But the innovations have just begun. Join this session to learn about the latest GKE features and upcoming innovations – such as next-generation autoscaling, lightning-fast node startup, and multi-cluster fleet management – that make GKE the best Kubernetes platform for the next generation of AI and modern workloads.

Managing Kubernetes clusters at scale is no easy task! When it comes to efficiently autoscaling nodes, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for every application use case. The challenge lies in implementing centralized best practices, such as bin-packing and workload right-sizing while giving developers the flexibility to tailor the solution to their needs. This talk shares our platform team's journey from using a cluster autoscaler with static instance types to node scaling with dynamic instance sizes at scale. Along the way, we optimized costs and realized that reliability best practices, like Pod Disruption Budgets, Topology Spread Constraints, and resource rightsizing are more than just nice-to-have.

Get ready to dive into the world of DevOps & Cloud tech! This session will help you navigate the complex world of Cloud and DevOps with confidence. This session is ideal for new grads, career changers, and anyone feeling overwhelmed by the buzz around DevOps. We'll break down its core concepts, demystify the jargon, and explore how DevOps is essential for success in the ever-changing technology landscape, particularly in the emerging era of generative AI. A basic understanding of software development concepts is helpful, but enthusiasm to learn is most important.
